list as Librarian III.
NEW BUSI27.SS
Promotional Appointment of Librarian III. After a brief discussion of the status of
Librarian III and the need for a firm clarification of the duties and responsibilities
of the two Librarian III positions, it was moved by Trustee Moody and seconded by
Trustee DeMartini, that Mrs. Patricia Bergsing be promoted Librarian III as of November 1,
1965. It was brought out that the Librarian may have been remiss in not issuing written
instructions for certain work assignments to the administrative staff.
Closing of the Day After Christmas and the Day After New Years. The Librarian stated that
Surrounding libraries are going to be closed the day after Christmas and the day after
New Years, and he thought that the Burlingame Public Library should be closed also. On a
motion by Trustee Moody, seconded by Trustee DeMartini, it was moved that the library be
closed on the day after Christmas and the day after Now Years.
A Letter of Complaint from Dr. Alvin S. Natanson to Trustee DeMartini. Trustee DeMartini
stated that he had received a letter of complaint from Dr. Natanson in which he indicated
that on Sept. 28th, while standing at the desk in the library, he overheard an incoming
call requesting that he be paged. He stated that the clerk at the desk was discourteous
to the party at the other end of the telephone line who was told that the call could not
be transmitted. Dr. Natanson stated that he finally interfered and took the message
which was for an emergency surgical operation at Peninsula Hospital. He then stated that
he requested permission to use the phone and was indignantly told to "use the pay phone."
He stated further "that when a physician is telephoned on emergency calls he should be
given the courtesy of being paged." In the ensuing discussion, the Librarian stated that
he would investigate this matter and would acknowledge Dr. Natanson's letter, expressing
regret over this incident.
Possible Recovery of Damages. The Librarian stated that there might possibly be an anti-
trust suit brought by the State for treble damages against certain shelving manufacturers.
He stated that during the period 1955 through 1960, the library had purchased over $10,000
worth of shelving, either through contractors or directly, and that he was investigating
the possibility of joining with the State for recovery of moneys.
ADJO'3RitiTM?E;+i'P
On a motion by Trustee Moody, seconded by Trustee DeMartini, the meeting was adjourned.

BOOK SAIX
The library disposed of about 6,,000 usedE, worn out, or gift books at a book sale sponsored
by the Lady LionsD and held through the courtesy of Mr,, Roger Duncan in his display room
next to the library,, The library netted over $500D which will be used for the purchase of
phonograph records. Without the help of Lions° ladies and Mr. Duncan we would have been
unable to display the books or staff the four day sale, They certainly deserve our greatest
appreciation for their help.
