LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
The Librarian's report was read and accepted.
OLD BUSINESS
Tapestry, possible insurance of. The Librarian stated that he had received an appraisal from
Pair. Derelian in the amount of $8,500. The Librarian thought this would be adequate as it would
cover all expenses involved with the tapestry if it were lost. He stated that he had submitted
this amount to an insurance firm for a cost estimate.
Salary Survey.
The I.ibarian briefly outlined the result of the salary survey and hearing, and read excerpts
fromlthe letter to Mr. Schwalm from the surveyors. The Librarian stated that he does not
believe that the survey people had paid any attention to the letter and statistics that he had
submitted, as their statement said the librarians in South Francisco, San Bruno, San Mateo and
Menlo Park had the same job responsibilities as the head librarian. He stated that in all
cases except San P,lateo this is definitely not true, and would have been very apparent if they
examined the table or read the letter. After considerable discussion, in which the members
present of the city council participated, it was agreed that the Board could protest further
if they desired.
Convention
The Librarian briefly outlined some salient points, especially noting that the new standards
had been designed for systems alone. Far. DePlartini requested that the Librarian include in
the minutes his report on the convention as soon as his notes are received, which were mailed
from New York last Friday.
