HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Packet - LB - 1966.08.17 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD July 20, 1966 {— Trustees Present: Mr. Lynes, Mrs. Cohendet, Por. DeMartini, Mr. Hechinger Trustees Absent: Mr. Moody, excused due to other commitments. Trustee Lynes called the meeting to order and suggested that the order of business be changed in order that the organization of the Library Board be the first order of business. He then called for nominations for the President of the Board. Trustee Hechinger nominated Trustee Cohendet. Trustee Cohendet declined the nomination. Trustee Cohendet nominated Trustee DeMartini; nomination was seconded by Trustee Hechinger. Trustee Lynes moved that the nomin- ation be closed and that a unanimous ballot be cast for Trustee Dertartini. The motion was seconded by Trustee Cohendet and carried. Trustee Lynes called for nomination for secretary. Trustee DeMartini moved.that Trustee Hechinger be nominated for secretary; nomination seconded by Trustee Cohendet. Trustee Lynes moved that the nominations be closed and a unanimous ballot be cast for Trustee Hechinger; motion seconded by Trustee Cohendet and carried. Trustee DeMartini took the chair. MINUTES The minutes of the meeting of June 15,1966 were read and approved. BILLS On a motion by Trustee Lynes, seconded by Trustee Cohendet, bills in the amount of $5,634.59 were ordered paid. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT The Librarian's report was read and accepted. OLD BUSINESS Tapestry, possible insurance of. The Librarian stated that he had received an appraisal from Mr. Derelian in the amount of $8,500. The Librarian thought this would be adequate as it would cover all expenses involved with the tapestry if it were lost. He stated that he had submitted this amount to an insurance firm for a cost estimate. Salary Survey. The Libarian briefly outlined the result of the salary survey and hearing, and read excerpts fromlthe letter to Mr. Schwalm from the surveyors. The Librarian stated that he does not believe that the survey people had paid any attention to the letter and statistics that he had submitted, as their statement said the librarians in South Francisco, San Bruno, San Mateo and Menlo Park had the same job responsibilities as the head librarian. He stated that in all cases except San Mateo this is definitely not true, and would have been very apparent if they examined the table or read the letter. After considerable discussion, in which the members present of the city council participated, it was agreed that the Board could protest further if they desired. Convention. The Librarian briefly outlined some salient points, especially noting that the new standards had been designed for systems alone. Mr. DeMartini requested that the Librarian include in the minutes his report on the convention as soon as his notes are received, which were mailed from New York last Friday. NEW BUSINESS Retirement of Mrs. Smoody.. It was moved by Mrs. Cohendet, seconded by Mr. Lynes, that we accept with regret the resignation of Mrs. Smoody. Councilman Johnson stated that as she had spent seven years on the Library Board, she knew of the time and effort spent by the Board members and she wished to thank them for their efforts. Mayor George also expressed his appreciation. ADJOURMENT President DeMartini requested Trustee Hechingerto chair the next two meetings as he and his wife were going on an extensive second honeymoon to Japan and the Far East. The meeting adjourned on a motion by Mr. Lynes, seconded by Mrs. Cohendet.
