HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - LB - 1967.11.14 MINUTES OF THE STUDY SESSION OF THE
BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
NOVEMBER 14, 1967
Trustees Present: All
The meeting was called to order by President Hechinger.
1. The librarian discussed briefly the revised individual project estimate and reviewed
the sketch plans as submitted in previous years by Col. Norberg. He stated that additional
square footage was approximately that needed and also net the standards for a library
our size, but the layout should be different, mainly to allow for changes made desirable by
the Spangle report.
Trustee Guthrie stated that he had studied the reports and this was correct.
2. The Librarian noted action of the Planning Commission in approving the proposed children's
extension, and their suggestions that the larger addition be constructed after a three year
period during which funds could be accumulated for this purpose.
3. The librarian called attention to the City Council 's minutes discussing the projected
extension, and noted that they seem to approve in general the immediate expansion, but that
further studies by a professional firm should be carried out; and ajoint meeting with the
Library Board as soon as possible was desirable.
4. The librarian stated that Trustee Lynes had submitted a most helpful brief stating
concisely the Basic Philosophy, Immediate Need and Future Needs of the Library; and that
copies were included with the agenda.
After considerable discussion, the following steps were set forth in the order of their
need:
A. Greater area for acquisitions and processing to increase efficiency of staff
B. Expansion of the children's area and stacks
C. Conversion of the children's area to a browsing room and the construction of a
new children's section, adult stacks and work room
0. Community survey to determine proper development of library and future branches.
Respectfully submitted,
George Paul Lechich
Clerk of the Board
