RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME
APPROVING JOINT POWERS AGREEMENT CREATING THE CENTRAL COUNTY
FIRE DEPARTMENT AND AUTHORIZING MAYOR TO SIGN THE AGREEMENT
RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Burlingame:
WHEREAS, the Town of Hillsborough and the City of Burlingame have worked together
for over two years to develop a joint fire prevention and suppression and emergency medical
organization that would enhance the emergency services provided to their citizens; and
WHEREAS, this effort has involved the community and the employees of both cities, and
included testing of joint manning of equipment, shifts, stations, programs, and training; and
WHEREAS, the employee organizations representing each fire department's employees,
International Association of Fire Fighters Local 2400 and the Fire and Police Administrators have
worked together with management and the Councils to develop agreements, organization plans, and
training programs that lay the foundation for a successful joint agency; and
WHEREAS, while the Central County Fire Department should provide significant short-
term and long-term cost savings to both the City and the Town, this joint agency will provide a
strong, well-trained fire service to meet the current and future needs of both communities,
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED AND ORDERED:
1. The Mayor is authorized and directed to execute the Joint Powers Agreement creating the
Central County Fire Department as contained in Exhibit A hereto.
2. The Clerk is directed to attest to the signature of the Mayor.
I, ANN T. MUSSO, City Clerk of the City of Burlingame, do hereby certify that the foregoing
resolution was introduced at a special joint meeting of the City Council with the City Council of the
Town of Hillsborough held on the 20thday of April 2004, and was adopted thereafter by the
following vote:
AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: BAYLOCK, COFFEY, GALLIGAN, O'MAHONY
NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE
ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NAGEL
