November 16, 1971
CALL TO ORDER:
A regular meeting of the Burlingame Public Library Board was held on the
above given date. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman Lynes.
ROLL CALL:
Trustees Present: Trustee DeMartini, Trustee Hechinger, Trustee Lynes, Trustee Phelan
Trustees Absent: Trustee Cohendet, excused.
INTRODUCTION OF MRS. IRENE MALY:
The Librarian introduced Mrs. Irene Maly to the Board of Trustees. He stated
Mrs. Maly was hired as a Librarian II in the Reference Department, replacing
Mr. Finney. After a brief introduction, The Trustees excused Mrs. Maly so she could
continue her Reference work with the public.
BILLS:
Bills in the amount of $4,762.25 were ordered paid on a motion by Trustee DeMartini,
seconded by Trustee Hechinger, and unanimously carried.
LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
The Librarian's Report was read. Trustee DeMartini asked the Librarian why some of
these problems developed. The Librarian stated that in large part, they were due to
the six month delay in the installation of the multitier stacks, which caused some
confusion on the part of the subcontractors. He also stated that some of the
detailing by the mechanical and electrical engineers were either in error or not
complete enough. He then spoke of specific problems.
The Librarian stated that the dedication and final acceptance of the building as
complete would not take place until the building was completely finished and all problems
were solved. He also stated that perhaps by January 15th, the dedication should take
place.
CORRESPONDENCE:
A letter to the Board from Mr. Charles Schwalm was read.
A letter to the Board and to Mr. Lechich from Mrs. Huajardo was read. She thanked
them for the good job the children's librarians were doing. A reply written by
Chairman Lynes, was also read.
A letter of thanks to Miss Riordan from Gregory Bruener was read. Ms. Bruener
thanked her for all the good work she was doing in the children's room.
A letter to Mr. Lechich from Elaine White, President of the Library Friends, was
read. Mrs. 4hite thanked Mr. Lechich for giving the Friends a preview tour of the library.
A letter was signed by Trustee DeMartini and Trustee Lynes. This letter was to
be sent to the Wells Fargo Burlingame Branch Bank, stopping payment of Warrant
Number 12016, issued to Demco on October 19th. Demco reported they had lost the warrant.

LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
DECEMBER 14, 1971
BUILDING:
With the exception of some minor problems, the building is complete.
INTERIOR:
The casework for the cataloging room has been shipped and should be in place
by the end of the week.
The desks for the Children's Room, Circulation Department, and Reference Department
have been shipped, and they should be here by the end of this week or the beginning
of next week.
The final parts of the carpeting should be installed by the end of next week.
We have been promised the shelving for the Cataloging Work Room, and it should
be installed by the first of the year. It remains to be seen.
We have no set date for the new catalogs. Hopefully, they too will arrive before
too long.
We have been shifting books in the stacks to their permanent location, and
during the Christmas vacation more should be done since the pages can put in extra
time.
CHILDREN'S ROOM:
November 14th through 20th was Children 's Book Week. A program entitled ART AND
YOUR CHILD, with Dale Perkins as guest speaker was held on November 18th.
Mr . Perkins spoke about various art projects the children of Burlingame have
undertaken, and a tour of the Artmobile concluded the program.
Our usual activities, school visits, book talks, and storyhours are continuing.
