HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Packet - LB - 1972.10.17 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD September 19, 1972 CALL TO ORDER: A regular meeting of the Burlingame Library Board was held on the above given date. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Pro Tem Hechinger. ROLL CALL: Trustees Present: Trustee Hechinger, Trustee Lynes, Trustee De Martini Trustees Absent: Trustee Cohendet, family emergency. Trustee Phelan, in hospital. Also Present: Ms. Joyce Maguire, Journalist representing HILLSBOROUGH BOUTIQUE & VILLAGER BILLS: Warrants in the amount of $5,999.03 and checks from the Special Fund totaling $145.48 were ordered paid on a motion by Trustee Hechinger, seconded by Trustee De Martini and carried. MINUTES: The minutes of the meeting of August 15, 1972, were approved and adopted. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: The Librarian's Report was read. Trustee Hechinger asked the Librarian to describe the new films purchased by the Friends of the Library. The Librarian stated the films were recreational Super 8 mm films. Trustee Lynes asked the Librarian about the phonodisc players. The Librarian stated they were light weight portable record players circulated to shut-ins. Trustee Hechinger asked how the shut-in service was working. The Librarian stated that the Shut-In Service, headed by Mary Lang, a library staff member, was doing very well. He stated that Friends of the Library and volunteers, as well as Mrs. Lang, bring books and visit with people in convalescent homes and private homes. OLD BUSINESS: The Trustees discussed the City Council Study Session held on September 12th regarding the Library building and interior. NEW BUSINESS: Trustee DeMartini stated that he noticed several patrons not wearing foot apparel in the library. He stated he was concerned with the possible health and safety hazards involved. After some discussion it was decided that the matter would be tabled until all the Trustees were present to discuss it, and the Librarian was asked to inquire about information regarding it. ADJOURNMENT: As there was no further business, the meeting was then adjourned at 7:30 p.m, with the next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 17th, 1972. Re ctfull sub Rh CV,7eorge aul Lec i City Librarian i LIBRARIAN 'S REPORT October 17, 1972 BUILDING: The Building was accepted at the City Council Meeting of October 2, 1972. INTERIOR: Most of the items taken up by City Council at their Study Session are on their way to completion. CIRCULATION & TRAFFIC : The single largest increase in circulation took place this year in September (11%). The traffic increased accordingly. The gain may partly be accounted for by the fact that the month of September, 1971, showed a decrease of 6% under that of September, 1970. AUDIO VISUAL DEPARTMENT: The new dual 8mm projector, a Kodak model M95, has arrived along with editor splicing materials, all of which are gifts from the Friends of the Library. The Film Festival has been rescheduled for four Tuesday evenings in October (3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th) at 7:30 in the Auditorium. The 50 new 8mm films (also gifts of the Friends) were ready for circulation on October 11th, and may be checked out on a regular adult library card for a period of one week. TOURS: On September 13, a class was given to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students of Burlingame High (Mr. Ken Ness) in the Reference Room. The topic was Tools for Research in the Sciences. A tour was given to School Librarians of Burlingame during their meeting at the Library on September 13th. An informal book talk was given to advanced 6th grade students from McKinley School (Mrs. Lindameyer) in co-operation with the Children's Department. CHILDREN 'S DEPARTMENT: On September 28th, the Principal and all the faculty of Lincoln Elementary School toured the Main Library and met with Miss Riordan, Mrs. Dunn, and Mrs. Bergsing. The Public Library's policies regarding service to schools, teachers, and children were discussed. New and better ways to coordinate services and communicate mutual needs were explored.
