HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - LB - 1973.09.18 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD September 18, 1973 CALL TO ORDER: The meeting of the Burlingame Library Board was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman DeMartini. ROLL CALL: Trustees Present: Trustee Cohendet, Trustee DeMartini, Trustee Hechinger, Trustee Lynes, Trustee Phelan Trustees Absent: None Also Present: Ms. Abby Fredrickson, Journalist from the Boutique/Villager Mrs. Judith Zingher, Librarian I, Cataloging Department The guests were introduced to the Board members by Chairman DeMartini as each arrived. BILLS: On a motion by Trustee Lynes, seconded by Trustee Phelan, and unanimously carried, warrants totaling $6,217.10/were ordered paid, Special fund bills totaling $1,212.54; were ordered paid on a motion by Trustee Lynes, seconded by Trustee Hechinger, and unanimously carried. MINUTES: Minutes of the meeting of August 14, 1973, were approved as mailed. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: The Librarian was asked how he was going to pursue the parking problem. The Librarian stated that he was collating his figures and would present them to the City Council when he felt the survey was complete. CORRESPONDENCE: A letter with an attached check in the amount of $15.00 was received from the Burlingame Art Society. A letter of acknowledgment will be sent to the Burlingame Art Society for their generous donation. A letter of commendation from Mrs. W. G. Livingston, 205 South Ashton Avenue, Millbrae, California, was read. Mrs. Livingston praised the Reference Department for their perseverence and dedication in helping her locate a book with very little information. OLD BUSINESS: Easton Drive Branch: Discussion was held as to the progress of the plans for the refur- bishing of Easton Drive Branch. The Board questioned Mr. Lechich as to the limits of the study requested by Mayor Martin; should it be solely for the Easton Drive Branch, for Easton Drive Branch plus possibility of another facility or for the other facility alone. NEW BUSINESS: Mrs. Judith Zingher was introduced to the Board members and was asked several questions about herself. Mrs. Zingher stated that she lived in Berkeley and that her husband attended the University of California. Trustee Cohendet moved that Mrs. Judith Zingher be appointed to the Civil Service status of Librarian I, effective October 1, 1973. The motion was seconded by Trustee DeMartini and unanimously carried. - 2 - A bid for janitorial services from A-Day and Night Building Maintenance was introduced to the Board. Discussion was held regarding our present maintenance contractor (L. Rancelli & Co.) and the possibility of contracting another maintenance service. The Librarian will check into the A-Day and Night Building Maintenance service further and make his recommendation. The Librarian informed the Board that the Friends of the Burlingame Public Library are conducting a Book Sale to be held on October 13th and 14th; and that the City had been consulted regarding the puppet show, concessions and entertainment being planned on the front lawn of the Library.
