BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD
November 19, 1974
CALL TO ORDER:
The regular meeting of the Burlingame Public Library Board was called to order by
Chairman Hechinger on the above given date at 5:01 P.M.
ROLL CALL:
Trustees Present: Trustee Cohendet, Trustee DeMartini, Trustee Hechinger, Trustee Lynes,
Trustee Phelan
Trustees Absent: None
Also Present: Mrs. Patricia M. Bergsing, Assistant City Librarian
BILLS:
Warrants in the amount of $7,468.13 were paid on a motion by Trustee Lynes, seconded by
Trustee DeMartini, and carried. Special Funds bills totaling $862.94 were paid on a
motion by Trustee Cohendet, seconded by Trustee Lynes, and carried.
MINUTES:
The minutes of the meeting of October 15, 1974, were approved and ordered filed.
LIBRARIAN'S REPORT:
Some discussion was held regarding the Retirement Planning Program which was held at our
library from October 24th through November 7th, and of South San Francisco and Menlo Park
libraries joining the Peninsula Library System.
CORRESPONDENCE:
A letter of appreciation was received from Mr. Lloyd Lynes, Principal of Franklin School.
His comments on Mrs. Joy Molder's presentation to their PTA meeting of November lath
referred to her grasp and knowledge of service and programs offered by our library.
OLD BUSINESS:
Easton Drive Branch: Mr. Lechich gave the floor to Mrs. Bergsing to report the remodeling
activities at the Branch Library. Mrs. Bergsing stated that the carpet has been partially
installed with the balance to be completed on Thursday. The Branch will be closed Novem-
ber 20th through November 24th to allow the rug and new shelving to be installed. The
circulation desk which is being refinished and some of the new furniture are not scheduled
to arrive until December. Hopefully everything will be completed and the Open House can
be planned for January 1975. Mr. Lechich reported that the roof has been completely redone.
Mr. John Hoffman, Director, Burlingame Park Department, has had a new sprinkler system
installed and is now in the process of replanting and landscaping the grounds.
Change in time of Library Board meetings: After some discussion, it was moved by Trustee
Lynes that the item be tabled to the meeting of December 17, 1974.
NEW BUSINESS:
California Library Association Convention: Trustee Hechinger attended the California
Library Association Convention inSan Diego on November 9th through November 14th. Also
attending the convention were Trustee Phelan, Mr. Lechich, Mrs. Bergsing and Mr. Escoffier.
Trustee Hechinger reported that he received many compliments about our library and our
Head Librarian. He was especially impressed with the session regarding the Board of
Trustees and their responsibilities and found the exhibits very inspiring.
The Librarian stated that casette tapes of several of the sessions held at the convention
are being ordered and it is hoped that they will be received in time to be played at the
next Board meeting.
ADJOURNMENT:
As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:18 P.M. on a motion by
Trustee Lynes, seconded by Trustee Phelan, with the next Board meeting scheduled for
December 17, 1974.
