LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: Trustee Lynes commented that the Librarian's report regarding the traffic count was very interesting. The Librarian stated that plans are being made to re-install the traffic counter at the Branch Library. The Board members felt that the Easton Drive Branch Open House was very successful. CORRESPONDENCE: A letter, along with a donation of $50, was received from the Burlingame Art Society. The Librarian stated that a thank-you note had been sent for the generous gift. A copy of a letter from Mrs. Patricia R. Hartnett, of 2616 Hillside Drive, Burlingame, to Mayor William J. Crosby, was brought to the attention of the Board. Mrs. Hartnett commended the Burlingame City Council for the appropriation of funds for the renovation of the Easton Drive Branch Library. Another letter of praise for the remodeling of the Branch Library was received from Mrs. Charles H. Monahan, of 2022 Trousdale Drive, Burlingame. Mr. Lou Jones, of 511 Verano Court, San Mateo, wrote to the Librarian regarding the displaying of pro and con literature on ballot propositions. Along with his letter, he enclosed a copy of a new clipping showing that the San Mateo County Library offers space for those wishing to display materials on current issues and events. OLD BUSINESS: Easton Drive Branch: Mrs. Bergsing showed slides of the Easton Drive Branch Open House. All Board members present were very complimentary and thought the event was a tremendous success. The Librarian presented blueprints of two proposals in the landscaping of the Easton Branch grounds. These plans were drafted by the Burlingame Park Department and would be presented to the Burlingame City Council at the next meeting. The Board was in approval of the plans. Respectfully submitd, 77 George Paul Leich Clerk of the Board GPL:jq LIBRARIAN'S REPORT March 18, 1975 CIRCULATION: The circulation increased 14% over the cirulation in February 1974. The Branch increased from 4,550 to 5,876 or 29% -- the Main increased from 22,686 to 25,778 or 11.5%. The non-fiction circulation at the Main increased 17.8%. The non-fiction at the Branch in- creased 41.1% and the children's fiction at the Branch bounced 53.4%. The total traffic at the Main was 28,020 or 3,230 (130) more than February 1974. This means that, on the average, 1,126 patrons came to the library every day or 129 more than February 1974. At this circulation rate, we may average 14 books per capita, the highest for several years and well above our neighbors. It will be interesting to see (if the recession continues) how high it will go -- it was 16.1 per capita in 1932-1933 (somewhere in the 50's we had a 14.8 rate but I have not looked it up) . CHILDREN'S DEPARTMENT: With the exception of the making of valentines to celebrate Valentine's Day, activity in the Children's Room has been routine -- class visits, teacher collections and book talks. Pre-school story hour attendance has grown necessitating the addition of another story hour. This means making available to the public three story hours. -- Mondays at 1:30 P.M. at the Easton Branch Tuesdays at 10:00 A.M. at the Easton Branch Wednesdays at 10:00 A.M. at the Main Library Games are now being circulated at both the Main and Branch libraries. Plans for our Author's Festival. are progressing. So far, twelve authors have accepted their invitations to attend. Also plans for National Library Week are being formulated. REFERENCE DEPARTMENT: The Burlingame Public Library was Peninsula Library System's Library of the Month during February, culminating in an orientation tour_of our regular and special .collection on February 27th. - Twenty-five P.L.S. Reference Librarians were given a tour and an intro- duction to the Library of English Literature Microbook Library. A total of 50 new standard 8mm and super 8mm films were added to the library's collection. The library's collection now totals 85. A film list giving essential information about each film is forthcoming. Four special bibliographies, which were prepared by the Reference staff, are now available at the Reference Desk. The bibliographies are: Biographical Reference Books, Literature Criticism, Literature by Nationality/Region, and Literary Periodicals.
