STUDY MEETING
May 12 , 1976
1 . The Neighborhood Youth Corps . request was withdrawn
for this year due to the agency ' s inability to be organ-
ized in time for action from employers in this city .
2 . The tree planting project for Old Bayshore was reported
upon . The owners or occupants did no`. indicate sufficient
interest in the project by returning the letter of agree-
ment for watering trees that would be placed in front of
their property . It was thoughtthat such lack of interest
wa,3 sufficient reason to discard the project .
The plan for replacement cf shrubs along California Drive
was reviewed . This project will proce,iJ as planned with
the work being accomplished by adding one summer youth
worker .
3 . The city ' s portion of improving the extension of Airport
Boulevard to Old Bayshore was discussed . The widening of
the entrance starting from Old Bayshore was shown on a drawing
from the engineering department. This department will provide
the plans and specifications for the street improvement ex-
cept for irrigation and landscaping . These latter two items
will be performed by a landscape architect at an estimated
charge of $2 , 500 . Gas tax funds will be used to completL
the city ' s portion of this improvement .
4 . The golf course project was reviewed . Possible proposals
for construction , operation and maintenance will be sought
from private investors . San Mateo will be contacted to
determine if they are interested in joining with Burlingame
to provide a refuse collection point in order to eliminate
the use of land refuse disposal sites . Also , alteratives
for eliminating the sludge beds will be sought..
5 . The idea of installing large clock on the Southern Pacific
station from transit capital improvement funds waa abandoned .
6 . The proposed sign code was discussed . It was thought that
as an interim action , the present sign code should be amended
to eliminate the seeking of a variance for siins over 32 square
feet. This can be accomplished by adopting the schedule in
the proposed sign ordinance will be studied and then cor..-
sidered for adoption at a later time .
Study Meeting Notations - 2- May 12 , 1976
7 . The fact that San Francisco is raising water rates for
water that cities purchase was discussed . The acting City
Engineer presented two schedules of water rates for consid-
eration . After reviewing all the possibilities ror proper
rate adjustment , it was thought best to adopt water rates
which will be uniform and which will allow the water service
to be self- supporting .
8 . The city ' s position on the Harbor District dissolution was
reviewed . It was stated that our position shall remain as
in the past in favor of dissolution on she grcunds Lhat the
construction of large harbor facilities does not have over-
all countywide benefits .
9 . The question was raised concerning possible post office
land use for a police station and whether an analysis of
the mattes should be undertaken . The mattar was taken
under a?.visement .
10 . It was suggested that a procedure on commission appoint-
ments be studied for future use _
11 . The meeting was adjourned at 11 : 30 p . m. .
