MEETING OF
BURLINGAME LIBRARY BOARD
January 18, 1977
CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting of .the Burlingame Library Board of Trustees was called to order
at 5:00 P.M. on January 18, 1977 by Chairman Lynes.
ROLL CALL:
Trustees Present: Trustee Cohendet, Trustee DeMartini , Trustee Hechinger, Trustee Lynes
Trustee Phelan
Trustees Absent: None
Also Present: Mrs. Patricia M. -Bergsing, Assistant City Librarian
BILLS:
Warrants totaling 56,244.61 and Special Fund bills in the amount of $80.66 were ordered
paid on a motion by Trustee Phelan, seconded by Trustee Cohendet, and carried.
LIBRARIAN' S REPORT:
Some discussion was held on the service offered by the Reference Department in
arranging to give book talks to community groups.
CORRESPONDENCE:
A thank-you letter was received from Ms. Esther M. Dickie, Secretary, Burlingame
Women's Club Book Secton complimenting Miss Joan Riordan and Mrs. Barbara Rowe
on the excellent job they did on book reviewing for their club.
OLD BUSINESS:
Hillsborough Library: There was some discussion on the present status of the
Hillsborough Library tax and comments were made in regard to Mr. Roger Hawley's
article in the Boutique and pillager. The Librarian will keep the Board informed.
NEW BUSINESS:
Book Security System: The Librarian asked firs. Bergsing to explain the different
types of systems that are available. Mrs. Bergsing also explained that San Mateo
Public Library presently uses the Check Point By Pass System and that they are very
happy with it. They will be researching all the popular systems and will report
their findings at the next Board meeting.
Disposing of Extra Chairs, Shelving, etc. : The Librarian discussed the possibility
of disposing of the old furniture at an auction and asked the Board's permission to
do so. On a motion by Trustee Phelan, seconded by Trustee DeMartini , Librarian
Lechich has permission to sell the furniture.

NEW BUSINESS: Continued
Presentation of "Washington Landmark" : Trustee Cohendet presented a copy of
"Washington Landmark" by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
to Librarian Lechich. He accepted the gift and stated the book will be a valuable
addition our collection.
ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 P.M. with the next meeting scheduled to be held
on February 15, 1977.

LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
FEBRUARY 15, 1977
ACTIVITY:
Circulation for January 1977 decreased 0.8 of one percent over January 1976.
Traffic was nearly the same as last year while reference activity increased 12%.
REGISTRATION:
We now have 19,040 registered patrons. This is 74 more than in January 1976.
During This period, we registered or issued to new patrons , approximately 6,347
cards. We now have 5,472 Peninsula Library System registered patrons. This is
841 more than in January 1976.
BOOK STOCK:
We now have 206,416 volumes as of January 31 , 1977, 14,913 pamphlets, 1 ,087 maps,
and 4,664 records.
FINES AND FEES:
We are depositing with the City Treasurer considerably more than last year. This
month, $2,355.19 which is $488.80 more than last year.
REFERrNCE DEPARTMENT:
Library Services Talk: Mrs. Joy Molder presented a 20-minutes talk to two women's
circles of the United Methodist Church of Burlingame on January 19th. Aproximately
45 women heard of the many resources and services of our library and of P.L.S. and
C.I.N.
San Francisco Public Library Tour: The Bay Area Reference Center once again sponsored
a tour of the San Francisco Public Library subject collections for librarians in the
various Bay Area systems. Mrs. Escoffier participated in the tour.
