HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - LB - 1978.08.24 BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES AUGUST 24, 1978 CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Hechinger on August 24, 1978 at 4:45 pm. ROLL CALL: Trustees Present: Trustee DeMartini, Trustee Hechinger, Trustee Phelan Trustees Absent: None Also Present: Mrs. Joy Molder, Assistant City Librarian BILLS: Warrants in the amount of $8,099.56 were ordered paid on a motion by Trustee Phelan, seconded by Trustee DeMartini and carried. Special Fund bills totaling $480.56 were paid on a motion by Trustee DeMartini, seconded by Trustee Phelan and carried. MINUTES: Minutes of the July 18, 1978 meeting were approved as written and ordered filed. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: Librarian Patricia Bergsing advised the Board that a final budget hearing will be held on September 5th, 1978, and should any change in date occur, she will advise the Board. The Results of the "User Survey" for the Main and Easton Branch Libraries were distributed to Board mem- bers. Discussion ensued. Members of the Board took the results home for further study. Mrs. Bergsing said the results waould also be forwarded to Council. Discussion was held regarding the closing of other Libraries in the area on certain days. Mrs. Bergsing stated that the Reference and Circulation Departments are indeed feeling the impact of the overflow from the results of this. — CORRESPONDENCE: The correspondence was discussed briefly and Trustee Hechinger made note that letters concerning the closing of the Easton Drive Branch Library had been forwarded to the Board by Council. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 1978-1979 budget was discussed and Librarian Bergsing stated that there is nothing new to report at this time. NEW BUSINESS: Mrs. Bergsing advised the Trustee's that Trustee Lynes had resigned from the Board. This leaves the Board with a total of three Trustee's. The Board members noted his many years of service to the City of Burlingame. Mrs. Bergsing advised the Board that the appointment of new Board members was still pending, but now that there were two vacancies She felt the Council would act very soon. Discussion foll- owed regarding orientation of the new Board Members after their appointment. Librarian Bergsing advised the Board that Council had authorized Burlingame Public Library to participate in C.L.S.A., discussion followed. There was overall approval of the program. Mrs. Bergsing reported that the privately supported Governmental Research Council was conducting a study of the cooperative library services of Libraries in San Mateo County. Discussion followed. Librarian Bergsing expected results to be available next Spring. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 5:20pm with the next meeting scheduled for Sept. 19, 1978.
