A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME
ACKNOWLEDGING AND SUPPORTING THE LIFE SCIENCES SECTOR AND THE ROLE OF
BAYBIO'S CONFERENCE IN STRENGTHENING THE LIFE SCIENCES INDUSTRY
WHEREAS, the life sciences industry is a valuable component of Northern California's
economic success; and
WHEREAS, more than 2,000 companies dedicate their time and resources to
developing new treatments, cures and technologies for diabetes, cancer, HIV/AIDS and other
diseases; and
WHEREAS, more than 100,000 individuals work to increase access to revolutionary
treatments, improve technologies for fighting disease, and develop alternative forms of energy;
and
WHEREAS, Northern California is regarded as a global innovation engine with
renowned research institutions and companies; and
WHEREAS, The BayBio 2011 Annual Conference: "Powering Global Innovation" will be
held in Burlingame on April 20, 2011 brings together leaders in the life science community to
build new relationships and partnerships;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BURLINGAME acknowledges and supports the life sciences sector and the role of BayBio's
annual conference in strengthening this dynamic industry.

I, Mary Ellen Kearney, City Clerk of the City of Burlingame, do hereby certify that the
foregoing Resolution was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the April 4,
2011, and adopted thereafter by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers: BAYLOCK, BROWNRIGG, DEAL, KEIGHRAN, NAGEL
NOES: Councilmembers NONE
ABSENT: Councilmembers: NONE
