HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 062-2012RESOLUTION NO. 62-2012 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING AN APPROPRIATION OF $ 71,000.00 FOR THE BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY "THIN CLIENT" TECHNOLOGY PROJECT WHEREAS, the Burlingame Public Library currently provides 35 personal computers (PCs) for public use in the main library; and WHEREAS, these PCs are scheduled to be replaced every five years at a current cost of $1,900 for each PC hardware and software; under the "thin -client" project, PCs will cost $600 to replace resulting in a savings of $1,300 per PC; and WHEREAS, an additional annual cost of Library PCs is the staff time required to setup, update and maintain the PCs, conservatively estimated to be to be $14,700; and WHEREAS, "thin -client" PCs will have the most modern version of Windows and Windows software and all software will be uniform given that the operating system and software will be server based; and WHEREAS, the goals of the thin client project are 1) to lower the replacement cost of personal computers by 25% or more; 2) to lower the cost of staff time needed to maintain the public -use computers by 50% or more; and 3) to modernize and standardize the operating systems and software on public -use computers; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME RESOLVES AND ORDERS AS FOLLOWS: The City Council of the City of Burlingame hereby approves the "thin client" computer upgrade program for the City's Library and hereby authorizes an appropriation of $ 71,000.00 for the propose of implementing the program. , 1, Mary Ellen Kearney, City Clerk of the City of Burlingame, do hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 20th day of August, 2012, and was adopted thereafter by the following vote: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS BAYLOCK, BROWNRIGG, DEAL, NAGEL NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS NONE ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS REIGHRAN Mary Ellen Barney,'ity Clerk
