HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 030-2013BSIRLI,IyGAME RESOLUTION NO. 30-2013 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME HONORING CENTRAL COUNTY FIRE CHIEF DON DORNELL FOR 37 YEARS OF FIRE SERVICE IN SAN MATEO COUNTY WHEREAS, Don Domell was born in San Francisco and raised in Millbrae; and WHEREAS, in addition to two Associate Degrees, Chief Domell has a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Studies with emphasis in Life Safety Technology and Emergency Services Management; and WHEREAS, Chief Domell has served the City of Burlingame Fire Department since he was hired on March 1, 1977, and his career has taken him from Fire Fighter to Fire Chief of the Central County Fire Department; and WHEREAS, Chief Domell served as Burlingame Fire Department Training Officer from 1997 to 2004, and was a Fire Technology Instructor at the College of San Mateo from 1997 until 2012; and WHEREAS, Chief Domell became the first Deputy Fire Chief for the newly formed Central County Fire Department in June 2004, and was appointed as the second Fire Chief of the Central County Fire Department, comprised of Burlingame and Hillsborough, in December 2006; and WHEREAS, Chief Domell also began serving as the shared Fire Chief for the cities of Millbrae and San Bruno on May 25 2012; and WHEREAS, Chief Domell currently serves as the first chairman of the Burlingame Adopt -A -Unit Program, formed in 2004, and has sponsored hundreds of adopted soldiers in the 101st Airborne Division through five deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan; and WHEREAS, Chief Donnell is highly respected by his colleagues in the San Mateo County Fine Chiefs Association, where he serves as a liaison to several adjunct groups, and is also a member of the Intemational Association of Fire Chiefs and California Fire Chiefs Association; and WHEREAS, Chief Domell has shown extraordinary leadership in building, motivating, and coaching his staff to form a successful Central County Fire Department. NOW, THEREFORE, this City Council honors Chief Don Donnell on his retirement after 37 years of public service and expresses the City's sincere appreciatio/n�n forhisdedicated years of service to the Burlin ame comm unity.
