HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 100-2014RESOLUTION NO. 100-2014 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A THREE-YEAR AGREEMENT WITH A TWO-YEAR OPTIONAL EXTENSION WITH LWP CLAIMS SOLUTIONS FOR THIRD PARTY ADMINISTRATION OF THE CITY'S SELF-INSURED WORKERS' COMPENSATION PROGRAM WHEREAS, the City is self-insured for workers' compensation, and Athens Administrators has been the City's third party administrator since 2001; and WHEREAS, with the assistance of the City's broker ABD Insurance and Financial Services, the City sent out a Request for Proposal (RFP) earlier this year for third party administrator services; and WHEREAS, City staff and ABD reviewed the five proposals received and elected to interview three firms; and WHEREAS, City staff participated in the interviews; and WHEREAS, LWP Claims Solutions was the unanimous choice of the panel members; and WHEREAS, the selection committee believes that LWP will achieve better claims management and outcomes, provide improved customer service and communications to the injured staff and the City's Department Heads; and reduce the overall costs of the workers' compensation program through proactive and aggressive oversight and management of the primary drivers of workers' compensation—medical and litigation costs; and WHEREAS, the cost for the first two years of the contract is $88,000 per year, increasing slightly in the remaining years of the contract. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Manager is authorized to execute a three-year agreement between the City and LWP Claims Solutions for workers' compensation third party administrator services.
