New Business:
President Dunbar requested that Agenda item 8a be done out of order to
enable Reference Librarian, Barry Mills, ample time for his demonstration.
a. Internet Demonstration & Policy Statement: Barry demonstrated the
Internet via the Peninsula Library System Dynix network. The Board members
were very impressed by the volume and type of information available.
Librarian Escoffier explained that Internet can now be made available at any
public terminal. He suggested guidelines regarding its usage. He suggested that the
library make it available to the public for 90 days on a single workstation in the
adult reference area. Trustee Berger suggested a questionnaire, for public feedback,
be made available to evaluate the program. Librarian Escoffier said staff will
develop a questionnaire.
Trustee Berger then suggested that perhaps a focus group be formed of
patrons using it and find out what they're most interested in. President Dunbar
asked how many terminals with Internet we anticipate in the new building.
Librarian Escoffier said he did not know at this time because there are too many
variables.
Librarian Escoffier noted that a demonstration will be offered for members of
the City Council, before the Internet is made available to the public.
