A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME
SUPPORTING THE CALIFORNIA DRIVE/BELLEVUE AVENUE BIKE -PEDESTRIAN
ROUNDABOUT PROJECT AND SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION FOR MEASURE A
PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE PROGRAM FUNDING FOR THE CALIFORNIA
DRIVE/BELLEVUE AVENUE BIKE -PEDESTRIAN ROUNDABOUT PROJECT
WHEREAS, the California Drive/Bellevue intersection has complicated
intersection traffic movements, with the lack of clear right-of-way determination between
pedestrians, bicycles, and vehicles; and
WHEREAS, the California Drive/Bellevue Avenue Bike -Pedestrian Roundabout
Project would realign California Drive at Bellevue Avenue and Lorton Avenue with the
construction of a traffic roundabout circle at this three-way, extended intersection; and
WHEREAS, this roundabout would include bicycle and pedestrian facilities to
facilitate safe access and flow of all three transportation modes (walking, bicycling, and
vehicular); and
WHEREAS, it will cost an estimated $1,200,000 to design and construct the
California Drive/Bellevue Avenue Bike -Pedestrian Roundabout Project; and
WHEREAS, the City wishes to sponsor the design and construction of the
California Drive/Bellevue Avenue Bike -Pedestrian Roundabout Project; and
WHEREAS, the City seeks $1,000,000 for the California Drive/Bellevue Avenue
Bike -Pedestrian Roundabout Project from Measure A Grant Funds; and
WHEREAS, on June 7, 1988, the voters of San Mateo County approved a ballot
measure to allow the collection and distribution by the San Mateo County
Transportation Authority (TA) of a half -cent transactions and use tax in San Mateo
County for 25 years, with the tax revenues to be used for highway and transit
improvements pursuant to the Transportation Expenditure Plan presented to the voters
(Original Measure A); and
