Ms. Graczewski requested consideration of a parking permit for active duty military who are
on duty for thirty days or more. Ms. Graczewski also expressed concern for speeding on
Oak Grove Avenue and the safety at the crosswalk at Acacia and Oak Grove. Ms.

intersection.
Ms. Chrisman expressed her concern regarding the traffic speeds and safety at Willow and
EI Camino Real crosswalk. Ms. Chrisman inquired about speed bumps and "yield to
pedestrian" signage to address this concern.
7. CURRENT BUSINESS
7.1 Adeline/Cortez Intersection &Pedestrian Access —Discussion
Mr. Chou presented a staff report and provided background on the request to examine
the current pedestrian/student crossing situation at Adeline and Cortez. The staff report
recommended that the Commission concur with staff on the installation of SCHOOL
CROSSING signs and SCHOOL SPEED LIMIT signs on Adeline Drive at the
approaches to the Adeline Drive — Cortez Avenue intersection.
Mr. Chou reported that seven traffic counts were conducted at this intersection.
Commissioner Londer also did his own independent traffic count at this intersection.
Mr. Chou noted that two emails and/or letters regarding this matter were received from
residents.
Vice Chair Londer opened the floor for public comment.
Ms. Phillips thanked the commission for their concern for safety. Ms Phillips stated that
Lincoln School has two start times which could affect traffic counts. Ms. Phillips felt that
the ideal solution would be signs and a yellow crosswalk.
Ms. Malik expressed her concern for safety at this intersection and stated that at least a
dozen people use it to cross every morning. Ms. Malik felfi that a stop sign and a marked
crosswalk was needed.
Commissioner Serrato had some questions regarding the traffic counts. She also
agreed that a marked crosswalk might give pedestrians a false sense of security.
Commissioner Simonson agreed with the staff report for installation of signage and that
a marked crosswalk would give a false sense of security. Commissioner Simonson also
recommended that this intersection be added to the Selective Enforcement list.
Vice Chair Londer agreed with his colleagues and suggested that this item be revisited
in October after school resumes.
Motion: To accept the staff report recommendations to install signage on Adeline Drive
at the approaches to the Adeline Dr/Cortez Ave. intersection and encourage
selective enforcement at this intersection for speeding and rolling through
stops. Vice Chair Londer added a friendly amendment to continue to study this
intersection over the next few months and revisit it in October. Friendly
amendment was accepted by Commissioner Simonson and seconded by
Commissioner Serrato.

for wiring the traffic signal poles.
