A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME ADOPTING THE
SAN MATEO COUNTY HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN
WHEREAS, the City of Burlingame and San Mateo County face natural hazards that
could increase the risk to life, property, environment and the local economy; and
WHEREAS, pro -active mitigation of known natural hazards can reduce or eliminate long-
term risk to life and property; and
WHEREAS, the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (Public Law 106-390) established new
requirements for pre- and post -disaster hazard mitigation programs; and
WHEREAS, a coalition comprised of County, City and Special Districts formed to pool
resources and create consistent mitigation strategies within the San Mateo County planning
area; and
WHEREAS, the coalition completed a planning process that engaged the public and
assessed potential risks and vulnerabilities; and
WHEREAS, the coalition developed a mitigation strategy consistent with a set of
uniform goals and objectives, and created a plan on how to implement, evaluate and revise this
strategy.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
1. To adopt in its entirety the San Mateo County Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP), which
focuses on the City of Burlingame in Volume II, Section 2, Chapter 5.
2. To use the adopted and approved portions of the HMP to guide pre- and post -disaster
mitigation of the hazards identified.
3. To coordinate the strategies identified in the HMP with other planning programs and
mechanisms under its jurisdictional authority.
4. To continue its support of the Steering Committee and continue to participate in the
Planning Partnership as described by the HMP.
5. To promote and support the mitigation successes of all HMP Planning ParttAers.

certify that the foregoing Resolution was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council held
on the 6th day of September, 2016, and was adopted thereafter by the following vote:
