An Ordinance amending Section 3 0£ Ordinance number 111 of the
City of Burlingame entitled "An Ordinance regulating the keeping
storing and use of petroleum, gasoline, benzine, naptha, crude
pertoleum or any produce of petroleum, or hydro -carbon liquids
within the City of Burlingame, and providing a penalty for the
violation thereof.
The Board of Trustees of the City of Burlingame do
ordain as follows:
Section 1. Section 3 of Ordinance number 111 of the City of
Burlingame entitled "An Ordinance regulating the keeping storing
and use of petroleum, gasoline, benzine, naptha, crude petroleum
or any other produce of petroleum, or hydro -carbon liquids
within the City of Burlingame, and providing a pen<y for the
violation of same is hereby amended to read as follows to -wit:
Section 3. On written permission of the Board of Trustees
of the City of Burlingame, it shall be lativfull for persons to
keep or store any of the articles mentione8. in Section2 of said
Ordinance number 111 of the City of Burlingame in quantities in
excess of fifty gallons and not more than three hundred gallonsp
unless the same be kept or stored in a tank constructed of not less
than No. 12 gauge galvanized steel, rivited, steel to steel joints
soldered and coated with tar or other rust -resisting materiel,
or in an iron tank of not less than three -sixteenth of an inch in
thickness, rivited and caulked, coated with tar or other rust -
resisting material, such tanks to be placed outside of the walls
of any building, under ground, the top of said tank to be at least
four feet below the surface of the earth, and to be completely
covered with at least four feet of earth, said tank to be supplied
with proper feed pipe and pump and each pump to be supplied with
automatic cut-off. The tank shall be filled through a section hose
suitable for the ,zurpose, directly connected to the tank delivery
wagon,which shall be detached from the fee4 pipe when not in

service. Gravity pressure or syphon process for taking oil from said
tank will be permitted only in the residence section of the City
and whent he Board has examined into same and is satisfied that
same is perfectly safe and in accordance with law. No tank shall be
erected or located nearer than twenty feet from any furnace, stove
or other fire.
When possible to obtain a gravity flow the tank shall be
buried at least two geet underground and when placed above ground
said tank must be placed not less than fifteen feet from any building,
structure or part thereof.
The bottom of said tank for the gravity flow instalation
shall in no case be at a height greater than five feet above the
place of the burning point.
Before any such storage tank or tanks shall be built or
erected, the person, firm, company or co•rpora,tion intending to
build or erect shall make application to the Board of Trustees of
the City of Burlingame, submitting plans of the proposed tank or
tanks, showing their size and capacity, construction, proposed
contents, location distance from water and streams, and showing the
location of all adjacent buildings. They shall also submit plans
specifications for a brick or concrete wall to surround said tank

or tanks.
An inspection fee of ?2.50 shall be charged for inspection
of any gravity system installed in the City of Burlingame. Said
inspection shall be made by the fire Marshall of the City of
Burlingame.
Section 2. This Ordinance shall be published for two
successive publications in the Burlingame Advance and be in force and
effect from and after the date of its passage.
