CALL TO ORDER The duly noticed regular meeting of the Burlingame Parks & Recreation Commission was called to order by Chair Lewis at 7:04 pm at the Burlingame Recreation Center, 850 Burlingame Ave, Burlingame. 2. ROLL CALL COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Lewis, Malekos-Smith, Baum, Matthews & Milne COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Schissler & Palacio STAFF PRESENT: Parks & Recreation Director Glomstad, Recreation Coordinator Roman & Recording Secretary Helley OTHERS PRESENT: Shaeda Urbani, Burligame; Chris Ardito, Burlingame; Carina Husain, Burlingame; Jiana Ang, Burlingame; Sophia Morales; Burlingame; Nicole Chan, Burlingame; Taylor Abbey, Burlingame; Kara Stannerd- Stockton, Burlingame; Aida Mendoza, Burlingame; Christiana Carroll, Burlingame; Ethan Wan, Burlingame k1 .A99tDIT1.11we)aUII►1111YOky Commissioner Baum made a motion to approve the February 15, 2018 minutes. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Malekos-Smith and was approved. 4-2-1. (Palacio & Schissler absent; Milne abstained) 4. CORRESPONDENCE None 5. PUBLIC COMMENTS None 6. OLD BUSINESS None 7. NEW BUSINESS a. New Recreation Coordinator — Chris Roman Director Glomstad introduced new Recreation Coordinator Chris Roman to the Commission. Chris stated he is happy to be back in Burlingame full time as he previously worked with Burlingame as a part 1 Parks & Recreation Commission APPROVED Minutes April 19, 2018 time facility attendant prior to taking a full time Coordinator position in Menlo Park where he gained experience in recreation programming, staff supervision and facility management. His new role as Recreation Coordinator will be overseeing the following programs: Elementary school sports, Leaders in Training program, special events, summer enrichment camps at Kohl Mansion and other contract classes. b. Youth Advisory Committee Year End Update Recreation Coordinator Roman introduced Carina Husain who presented a review of events and activities the group has participated in in the past school year including Fall Fest 2017, Moms against Poverty, Winter Ball and the Senior Valentine's Dance. At the annual meeting of the YAC Attack the group hosted a session called Muffins for Mental Health and in addition they assisted with the first annual Summer Camp Fair. Parks & Recreation Department Reports Director Glomstad reported on the following updates: User Organization's Agreement for City Facilities Usage Study Session - Staff is working with groups to refine the agreements each group has with the City; Parks Master Plan — Focus group meetings have started and the online survey will be coming out soon; Community Center — Council has asked the design team to further develop one of the plan options and have opted for parking under the building with a goal to start construction in late 2019; BAC — Construction on the pool may be delayed a month, possibly starting in July; and the Murray Field renovation — Project is on track to open in August. Also reported Council approved the funding of Skyline Park with an anticipated start date of January 2019; and the installation of four clusters of fitness equipment on the Bay Trail is being requested in the CIP FYI 8-19 budget. b. Commissioners Reports Commissioner Matthews announced the Parks & Recreation Foundation's Bocce Tournament event on May 12th and encouraged team signups. 9. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS May Agenda — Ray Park Playground Update 10. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 pm. The next meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the Burlingame Recreation Center.
