AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE No. 227 OF
THE CITY OF BURLINGAME ENTITLED, "AN ORDINANCE
REGULATING AND ESTABLISHING THE LOCATION OF
RESIDENCES, APARTMENTS, TRADES, INDUSTRIES
AND BU>INESS BUILDINGS, AND ESTABLISHING THE
BOUNDARIES FOR SAID PURPOSES, PROVIDIliG FOR
THE CREATION OF A CITY PLANNING COIMISSION,
AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF
ITS PROVISIONS", BY AMENDING SECTION I AND V
THEREOF AND ADDING SECTION 9A THERETO.
The City Council of the City of Burlingame do ordain as
follows:
Section I. That Section I of Ordinance No. 227 of the City
of Burlingame entitled, "An Ordinance regulating and establishing
the location of residences, apartments, traaes, industries and
business buildings, and establishing the boundaries for said purposes,
providing for the creation of a City Planning Commission, and pro-
viding penalties for the violation of its provisions", is hereby
amended to read as follows, to -wit:
Section 1. The public health, comfort, convenience, safety
and welfare require that the use of private property in the City of
Burlingame, County of San Mateo, State of California, be and it is
hereby regulated, and that districts or zones be and they are hereby
established throughout the City of Burlingame, within some of which
it shall be lawful and others unlawful to erect, alter or maintain
certain buildings or make uses of certain property, and that thereftre
the said City of Burlingame shall be and it is hereby divided into
four classes of use districts, viz:
(1) Commercial,
( 2) Apartment.
(3) Residential.
(4) Industrial,
As provided by the act of the Legislature of California,
entitled, "An Act to provide for the establishment within municipali-
ties of districts or zones within which the use of property, height
of improvement and required open spaces for light and ventilation of
such buildings may be regulated by ordinance," approved May 31st, 1917.
Section .QT. Section 5 of Ordinance No. 227 of the City of
Burlingame, entitled, "An ordinance regulating and establishing the
location of residences, apartments, trades, industries and business

buildings, am, establishing the boundaries for said purposes,
providing for the creation of a City Planning Commission, and
providing penalties for the violation of its provisions," is hereby
amended to read as follows, to -wit:
Section 5. Industrial District. All the lands in the first
supervisoral district within the City of Burlingame northeast of
the right of way of the Southern Pacific Company as extended in
said City.
Section 3. Ordinance Numbered 227 of the City of Burlingame
entitled, "An Ordin nce regulating and establishing the location
of residences, apartments, trades, industeries and business buildings
and establishing the boundaries for said purposes, providing for the
creation of a City Planning Co,mission, and providing penalties
for the violation of its provisions," is hereby amended by adding a
new section to be known as Pection 9 A and to read as follows, to -wit:
Section 9 A. The industrial district shall permit the
erection and use of property herein for light industrial uses or
purposes, except such purposes as may constitute a nuisance and
provided said buildings or structures conform to the fire district
recuirement under the building ordinance of the City of Burlingame
and all rules and regulations pertaining to state laws on safety,
housing, ventilation and fire safety apparatus. The light industrial
district means such a use as ordinarily permitted in cities where a
use is made for light manufacturing or for purposes of serving
public utilities or needs or wants of a community end which is not
obnoxious or offensive by reason of odor, dust, smoke or noise of
any kind.
Section 4. This ordinance shall be published in the "Burlingame
Advance -Star" for the period prescribed by law and bein force -,nd
effect from and after th,� date of its passage.
