All ORDINANCE AII'[ 4 D I IM SEC T I ONS 4, 9, 23, 43, 52, 57, 60, 64 and 70 and REPEALING SECTIONS 58 OF ORDINANCE No. 249 of the CITY OF BURLINGA12 . -0-0-0-0-0- The City Council of the City of Burlingame do ordain as follows: Section 1. That Sections 4, 9, 23, 43, 52, 57, 60, 64 and 70 of Ordinance No. 249 entitled, "An Ordinance regulating the installation, maintenance and repair of appliances designed to employ natural, mixed or manufactured gas as fuel, and/or house gas piping in the City of Burlingame; providing for the inspection of said appliances and/or house gas piping; providing for the issuances of permits for the installation and repair of said appliances and/or house gas piping and the collecti on of fees therefor; providing for the licensing of persons engaged in selling, offering for sale, installing and for repairing said appliances and/or house gas piping; providing for penalties for the violation of this ordinance and repealing all ordinances in conflict therewith", be amended to read as follows: Section 4. Each applicant for a Gas Appliance Dealers License shall apply to the License Collector for same. All applications shall be approved by the plumbing inspector before being granted. Every person, firm or corporation engaged in the installation or repair of gas pipes and appliances who is not a licensed plumber in the City of Burlingame shall furnish satis- factory proof to the plumbing inspector of his qualifications for the making of said installations or repairs before said license is granted. Add to Section 9. "Failure to make application for permit by the first workday after corunencing work, permit fees and inspection fees shall be doubled." -1- Section 23. All gas pipes shall be well secured to the building and shall be graded toward the meter wherever. possible. Vertical pipe risers shall have placed at the bottom of each riser a tee plugged with a long nipk,le and cap the same size as the vertical pipe to serve as a dirt pocket. All gas pipes terminating at a wall or partition shall have a long male and female drop elbow extending beyond the face of said wall or partition. Section 43. Except as hereinafter provided in Sections 45 and 55, all gas appliances hereinafter installed sha be of a design and construction approved by the National Board o Fire Undarsariters or recognized and disinterested authority. All such apparatus not so approved niust be of a design and con- struction as set forts: in the specifications of 3uresu of Standards of the Department of Coiru:_erce or similar nationally recignized and disinterested authority, and must be installed in accordance with the provisions of this ordinance, health or property. The heating element of all gas appliam es shall have all the seams welded so that no product of combustion shall ente the room or space to pe heated. .provided, however, that the inspector may authorize the sale and, use of any appliance that i the stock of any gas appliance dealer or jobber on date of the adoption of this ordinance by stencillin an approval upon such appliance. Section 52. Vented appliances installed in ing rooms shall be rigidly attached to the house gas piping outlet. Section 57. No gas appliance shall be hereafter installed, or any gets appliance replaced unless the room or place where such appliance is located is ventilated so as to properly support combustion. No gas appliance shall hereafter be installe or any existing gas appliance replaced unless the same shall be .2- vented to a flue which shall be the full size of the vent outlet of the appliance to be vented. No damper shall be installed an any vent. Section 60. Flues shall be constructed of terra cotta, cement, or approved gas flue pipe of male and female type. Each joint, :shall ,be cemented to be gas and water tight with the male end pointing down. Flue pipe shall be cased in galvanized iron or steel of not less than No. 26 U. 5, Standard Gauge; provided, however, that any flue or chimney pipe approved by the .Board of Fire Underwriters for use without metal casing may be installed without such casing. Two or more gas appliances may be connected to one flue if said appliances are provided with safety pilot lights. Section 64. Vent inlets to gas flues shall in cases be provided by means of branch fittings, constructed of like materials as such flues. Said inlets to be not less than four (4) inches in diameter. Cutting of vent inlets into, flues is prohibited. Vent connections made through a fire place shall be made by means of a galvanized iron or steel plate set in the chimney throat, thoroughly cemented ,and air end ga.s tight. Section 70. Horizontal vents shall not exceed twenty(20) feet in length, except where architectural conditions necessitate longer runs in which case the pipe shall be increase one pipe size larger at the twenty (20) foot limit for the remainder of the distance. No horizontal run shall exceed the vertical length except where forced draft is provided. PiNe shall be graded up toward the flue not less than one (1) inch to each foot of length. Section 58 of said ordinance is hereby repealed. F Section II. This ordinance shall be published for the ��.. tyre..nanner-re* rzirad—by 3€�w, and be in force and effect from and after the date of its passage. -3- The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this Ordinance and cause the same to be published by reference in the manner provided by law.
