HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 0281ORDINANCE No. 281 AN ORDINANCE AIENDING ORDINANCE No. 186 OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAEE, AND ITS A38NDfl +NTS, RELATING TO TIE BURNING OF GARBAGE. -o-o-o-o-o-o- THE CITY COUNCIL OF TIM CITY OF BURLINGAME DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 8 of Ordinance No. 186 of the City of Burlingame relating to garbage disposal is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 8. Garbage shall not be burned within the City of Burlingame, except in properly installed and operated incinerators and in Nocordance with the following requirements: 1. Garbage incinerators, now and/or hereafter permitted in the City of Burlingame shall be of modern improved design and construction, and must be operated and controlled so that the maximum of efficiency may be had. 2. As a further safeguard of the health of our inhabitants, inciierators must be equipped with either gas or oil auxilary burners properly controlled and managed assuring not less than 99 percent reduction of all organic combustive, animal or plant material. 3. Garbage burning in garbage incinerators must be burned daily to prevent excessive accumulation and shall be permitted only between the hours of nine o'clock A.M., and twelve o'clock Noon. Garbage originating only from within the building and dropping by gravity thru schutes to fire chambers, may be burned in this incinerator. 4. After kindling or lighting said incinerator burring must be continued without interruption until complete reduction. 5. Fire grates must be dumped immediately upon completion of burning to obviate the possibility of continous burning beyond the prescribed hours allowed. 6. All incinerator flues or smoke stacks must be at least ten feet above roof of building so as to cause the minimum of smoke and odor, and equipped with latest improved spark arrester. -1 7. Garbage incineration shall not be allowed in residential districts or zones. 3-8. Rubbish burning, on any bitumen, asphalt, oil macadam or concrete street is strictly Prohibited. SECTION 2. Section 8 of Ordinance No. 186 of the City of Burlingame as amended by Ordinance No. 191 of the City of Burlingame is hereby repealed where same is inconsistent with the provisions of this ordinance. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be published in the "Burlingame Advance -Star" in the manner and for the period required by law and be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage.
