A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME APPROVING
THE CITY OF BURLINGAME RESPONSE LETTER TO THE SAN MATEO COUNTY CIVIL
GRAND JURY REPORT, "ENGLISH IS NOT OUR ONLY LANGUAGE"
WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Civil Grand Jury released a report entitled, "English Is
Not Our Only Language" on June 29, 2017; and
WHEREAS, the report concludes that multilingual accessibility on law enforcement
websites will increase access and participation in outreach programs by non-English speaking
residents; and
WHEREAS, the report included 11 findings along with two recommendations to address
those findings; and
WHEREAS, the Grand Jury has requested that the City of Burlingame respond to one of
the two pertinent recommendations, and submit a City Council -approved response to the San
Mateo County Grand Jury by December 31, 2017; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has received the proposed draft response letter attached
hereto as Exhibit A.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME RESOLVES AND
ORDERS AS FOLLOW:
That the letter in response to the San Mateo County Grand Jury Report, "English Is Not
Our Only Language°" is approved, and the Mayor is authorized to sign and convey said letter on
behalf of the City. /J
I, Meaghan Hassel -Shearer, City Clerk of the City of Burlingame, do hereby certify that the
foregoing Resolution was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 21st day
of August, 2017 and was adopted thereafter by the following vote:
