All ORDINANCE ALIENDING SECTIONS 2 and 4 of
ORDINANCE 1Ni1BERED 242 aSSD REPEALING OaDISdA_,TCE
No. 245.
The City Council of the City cf Burlingame do ordain
as follows:
Section 1. Section 2 of Ordinance Numbered 242 of the
City of 3urlingame is hereby amended to read as follows:
"SBCTION 2.
Screened openings thru foundation walls or
exterior walls shall be provided for cross venti-
lation of the space below the first floor in every
building in which a first floor is of wood frame
construction. There shall be one opening, at
least two square feet in net area within five feet
of every corner of the exterior walls of the build.-
ing; and there shall be two square feet of open-
ing for each twenty-five lineal feet or major
fraction thereof of exterior wall, provided, how-
ever, that such openings need not be placed in the
front wall of the building."
Section 2. Section 4 of Ordinance Numbered 242 of the
City of Burlingame is hereby amended to read as follows:
"SZCTION 4.
A termite shield shall be provided, which
shall continue completely around the surface of
the foundation below the woodwork of the building
on both the inside and outside surfaces. Such
shield may be formed of a strip of non -corrodible
metal, firmly inserted in t;e surface of the
masonry or between the foundation and the wood,
with the projeetiiK,• edge bent downward at an
angle of forty-five (45) degrees and extending
horizontally at least two (2) inches from the
face of the foundation. Shields are not required
when the floor joists have a clearance of not
less than twenty-four (24) inches between the
bottom of the joists and the surface of the r:roLuld
underneath. The ground under first floor joists
shall be levelled or smoothed off so as to main-
tain a reasonable even surface under the entire
area covered by the floor joists. floor sleepers
and joists embedded in masonry or concrete or
laid on concrete, which is in contact with the
earth, shall be impregnated with an approved
preservative and untreated wooden posts or
columns supported by concrete floors must rest
upon a metal or concrete Footing projecting at
least two inches above the finished floor."
Section 3. Ordinance SSumbered 245 of the City of
Burlingame is expressly repealed.
Section 4. This Ordinance shall be published in the
BurlirE_,ame .Advance -Star in the man :er and for the period pre-
scribed by law and be in force and effect f;om and after its
