HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 0384ORDINANCE NO. 384 All ORDINANCE REGULATING AND DEFINING LEAVES OF ABSENCE OF OFFICERS OR EM- PLOYEES OF TEE CITY OF BURLINGAME, =LE ENGAGED IN TEE PERMORMANCE OF MILITARY OR NAVAL DUTY. The City Council of the City of Burlingame does ordain as follows: Section One; Any officer or employee of the City of Burlingame, who, since December 7, 1941, has joined, or may hereafter join, the Military, Naval or Marine Service of the United States, shall be entitled to leave of absence from his position during the period of his enlistment and service as aforesaid. Section Two: As defined herein, military or naval duty shall be such to which an employee must submit, or service necessary to maintain military status, or of a volunteer nature requested of the employee or for which application was made by him. Section ''Three; If the employee or officer has been in the employ of the City for one year or more, continuously, prior to the date upon which leave begins, he shall be allowed his regular salary for a period of thirty (30)days. Section Four; The Civil Service Commission of the City may require proof of performance of military or naval duty as defined in this ordinance, either by presentation by the officer or employee of properly certified copies of competent orders or such other proof as shall be deemed necessary, and the Civil Service Commission of the City may adopt such rules as it shall deem necessary to carry out the provisions of this ordinance, Section Five, No such officer or employee granted a leave of absence under the provisions of this ordinance shall be subjected directly or indirectly, by reason of such absence, to any loss or diminution of vacation or holiday privilege or be prejudiced by reason of such absence with reference to promotion or continuance in office, employment, reappointment to office or reemployment. Section Six: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. Section Seven: This ordinance is hereby declared to be an emergency ordinance, to become effective immediately upon its passage. The emergency consists of the fact that the United States is at war and is in need of immediate assistance of its citizens to help carry on the conflict. Section Eight: This ordinance shall be published once in the Burlingame Advance - Star, a newspaper published in the City, for the time provided by law.
