HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso - CC - 127-2017RESOLUTION NO 127-2D17 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME MODIFYING THE CITY'S COMMISSION APPOINTMENT PROCEDURES WHEREAS, at the November 6, 2017 City Council meeting, the City Council discussed its "Procedure for Appointments to City Commissions and Boards" and suggested certain revisions; and WHEREAS, the revisions to the Procedure, including suggested changes from staff, consist of the following: • The addition of language to ensure that the deadline for board or commission applications is automatically extended by two weeks when a board or commission member chooses not to reapply for the position. This is similar to the situation that occurs when an incumbent Councilmember chooses not to file for re-election. In that case, the deadline is automatically extended by several days to allow other candidates to enter the race. • The addition of the Recreation Center as a place to post notice of vacancies. • The modification to the language regarding attendance at a meeting to note that applicants are strongly encouraged to attend a meeting of the relevant Board or Commission or to have watched one on television or online for those meetings that are televised and streamed. • The replacement of the City Clerk with the City Attorney as the responsible party for training new Board and Commission members. This reflects the City's current practice. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Burlingame modifies the "Procedure for Appointments to City Commissions and Boards" as described above. _ I, Meaghan Hassel -Shearer, City Clerk of the City of 'Burlingame, do hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 20th day of November, by the following vote: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: BEACH, BROWNRIGG, COLSON, KEIGHRAN, ORTIZ NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE erk
