AN ORDINANCE REPEALING CERTAIN PARTS AND
PORTIONS OF ORDINANCE NO. 390 WHICH AMENDS
SECTION 8 OF ORDINANCE NO. 2900 AUTHORIZ-
ING TEMPORARY APPOINTMENTS DURING THE EX-
IGENCY OF WAR.
The City Clerk of the City of Burlingame does ordain as
follows:
Section 1. Ordinance No. 390 of the City of Burlingame
adopted December 7, 19420 is hereby.repealed.
Section 2. Section 506 of the Ordinance Code of the City
is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 506 - - APPOINTMENTS
All appointments to positions or employments in the
classified service shall be made by the City Council from the
applications on file with the Civil Service Commission in
accordance with the rules and regulations adopted under the
authority of the Ordinance Code.
Temporary appointments may be made by the City Council of
persons who do not possess the minimum standards or qualificatic
for office or whose applications have not been filed, or who
have not been certified on an eligible list as the result of an
examination, or in the event those who are eligible are not
immediately available. Such temporary appointments shall not
continue for a longer period than three months and no person
shall be, eligible to serve as a temporary appointee in any one
year or more positions for more than an aggregrate period of
three months in any one fiscal year. In the giving of an exam-
ination for any position in the classified service no credit
shall be allowed for service rendered under a temporary appoint-
ment.
The City Clerk shall at all times advise the Civil Service
Commission as to the beginning and ending of the terms of
employment of all temporary appointments.
Section 3. By the adoption of this Ordinance, the City
Council of the City of Burlingame does hereby declare that it
is intended for the purpose of abolishing all so-called war
time appointments in the city service.

Ordinance was duly introduced at a regular meeting of the
City Council held 6n June 16, 1947, and adopted at a regular
meeting held on July 79 19479 by the following vote:
