AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 601 and 602 OF THE
ORDINANCE CODE OF THE CITY; INCREASING THE NM BER
OF ME1,,MERS OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COT&IISSION TO
FIVE; FIXING THE TERM OF OFFICIE AND PRESCRIBING
DUTIES
The City of Burlingame does ordain as follows:
Section 1 - Sections 602 and 601 of the Ordinance Code o"f the
City of Burlingame are amended to read as follows:
SECTION 601 - ORGANIZATION
The Civil Service Commission shall.considt of five members,
appointed by the Council, who shall be qualified electors of the
City, and each of whose term of office shall be for a period of
three years and until his successors are appointed and qualified.
The term of office of the first appointed members shall be deter-
mined by lot so that the terra of one member shall be for one
year, of two members for two years, and of two members for three
years, all terms commencing on the date of the appointment of the
first members of the Commission. The members shall serve without
compensation, but all necessary expenses incurred by them when
acting in their official capacity shall be paid by appropriate
action of the City Council.
The members of the Civil Service Commission as presently
constituted shall continue if office for their appointed terms or
until their successors have qualified.
SECTION 602 - VACANCIES, CHAIRPIANSHIP, MEETINGS, Q,UORUPf
The City Council may remove from office any members of the
Commission prior to the expiration of his term of office with or
without cause, by the affirmative vote of not less than four-
fifths vote of all members of the City Council. Vacancies shall
be filled by appointment by the Mayor, subject to the confirmation
of the City Council.
The Commission shall elect one of its members as Chairman
and the City Clerk shall act as Secretary. They shall meet at
the City Hall at such time as fixed by the Commission; three
members shall constitute a quorum and no official action shall
be transacted by less than the vote of at least three members.
Section 2 - This Ordinance shall be published as required by
law and become effective thirt7, days after its adoption.

do hereby certify that the foregoing ordinance was introduced
at a regular meeting of the City Council held on Play 15, ,
1950 and adopted thereafter on June 5, , 1950.by the
following vote:
