Section 4. The Matron -Stenographer shall be compensated for
any call to duty outside of regular hours at the following rate:
>For the first hour, two dollars and fifty cents, and one dollar
and fifty cents for each succeeding hour or major portion thereof.
Section 5. The person designated to make a stenographic
record of proceedings of the Council meetings shall receive such
compensation as the City Council may from time to time provide by
resolution and the person designated by the City Council to make a.
stenographic record of the proceedings of the Planning Commission
shall receive such compensation as shall be fixed by resolution
of the City Council.
Section 6. The Motorcycle Patrolman shall be compensated
at the rate of fifteen dollars for extra duty as patrolman
operating a motorcycle.
Section 7. The rate of pay set forth in the foregoing
schedule represents the standard monthly rate of compensation in
terms of dollars per month based upon full time employment.
Section 8. This Ordinance is hereby declared to be an
urgency measure necessary for the immediate protection of the
public peace, health and safety within the meaning of Section 1
of Article 4 of the Constitution of the State of California and
shall go into effect immediately. The facts constituting such
necessity are as follows: By reason of the increased cost of
living during the existing emergency, the officers and employees
of the city whose compensation was established before costs of
living increased are unable to live upon the salary and compen-
sation now paid to them. These officers and employees have been
compelled during the present emergency to curtail their manner of
living drastically and are rapidly exhausting their savings to
provide for themselves and families with the common necessities of
life. To relieve the distress of the officers and employees who
have in many instances served the City of Burlingame over a period
of years, it is necessary that this ordinance become effective
immediately; provided, however, that the increase in compensation
to the personnel in the Police and vire Departments shall not take
effect until thirty (30) days after the adoption of this Ordinance.
Section 9. This Ordinance shall be published once as
law.
