A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME APPROVING
THE IMPLEMENTATION OF AN INTERNET PURCHASE EXCHANGE LOCATION, AND
PROVIDING AN ADDITIONAL APPROPRIATION OF $18,000 TO ENHANCE THE CURRENT
CAMERA SYSTEM FOR ADDITIONAL SECURITY AT THE LOCATION
WHEREAS, the popularity of online commerce has increased in recent years; and
WHEREAS, although rare, fraud and violent incidents of theft have occurred during these
exchanges and transactions; and
WHEREAS, more and more communities are setting up internet exchange safe zones
within their cities and towns; and
WHEREAS, Police Department staff would like to designate the front parking lot of the
Police Department as an Internet Purchase Exchange Location; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department's front parking lot will be equipped with instructional
signs and high definition cameras; and
WHEREAS, the cost of enhancing the Police Department's current camera system would
be a one-time cost of approximately $18,000.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME RESOLVES AND
ORDERS AS FOLLOW:
The Police Department is hereby authorized to designate the front parking of the
Burlingame Police Department as an Internet Purchase Exchange Location.
The FY 2017-18 Police Department Operating Budget is hereby amended to include an
additional $18,000 for enhancement of the current camera system in order to provide appropriate
security for the location.
I, Meaghan Hassel -Shearer, City Clerk of the City of Burlingame, do hereby certify that the
foregoing Resolution was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 5th day
of September, 2017 and was adopted thereafter by the following vote:
