AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1997 OF
THE ORDINANCE CODE OF THE CITY OF BUR-
LINGAME BY ADDING SUBSECTION 1-a THERETO
PROVIDING FOR THE INSTALLATION OF FIRE
ALARM SYSTEMS AND CONNECTIONS AND RECIT-
ING THE EMERGENCY REQUIRING THE ORDINANCE
TO BE EFFECTIVE UPON ITS PASSAGE.
The City Council of the City of Burlingame does ordain as
follows:
SECTION l: Section 1997 of the Ordinance Code of the City
of Burlingame is hereby amended by adding thereto a new subsection
numbered 1-a which shall read as follows:
111-a. Fire Alarm Systems and Connections.
"Necessary fire alarm systems or extensions of the exist-
ing fire alarm system, including their connection to the central
control panel and the enlargement of the central control panel
caused by any such connections, shall be installed as ordered by
the Chief of the Fire Department.
"The developer or subdivider may file an application for
a variance from the order of the Chief of the Fire Department and
notices thereof shall be given, hearings held and testimony and
evidence taken by the City Council in the same manner as is pro-
vided for in Section 1996 of the Ordinance Code in cases of an
application for a variance from an order of rejection or modif-
ication by the City Engineer, and a variance may be granted by the
City Council upon findings of all of the things to be true which
are required for the granting of a variance from an order of the
City Engineer."
SECTION 2. This Council hereby declares that an emergency
exists which constitutes a danger to the public health, welfare
and safety of the people of the City of Burlingame and which makes
it imperative in the furtherance of the public health, safety and
welfare that this ordinance become effective forthwith. The nat-
ure of the emergency exists in the lack of regulations requiring
the installation or extension of fire alarm systems in or to
certain lands within the City of Burlingame which the City has
been petitioned to subdivide and in or to certain other lands
which the City is about to annex and which will be immediately
subdivided.

the foregoing ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the
City Council held on the lath day of April, 1955, and adopted on
the 18th day of April, 1955, by the following vote:
