HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 0691ORDINANCE NO. 691 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING SECTION 1206 OF THE ORDINANCE CODE OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME AND ADDING THERETO SECTIONS 1206.1 TO 1206.4, BOTH INCLUSIVE, PROVIDING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF follows: The City Council of the City of Burlingame does ordain as SECTION 1. Section 1206 of the Ordinance Code of the City of Burlingame is hereby repealed. SECTION 2. The Ordinance Code of the City of Burlingame is hereby amended by adding new sections numbered 1206.1 to 1206.4 which shall read and provide as follows: "Section 1206.1 Chief of Police to Establish Crosswalks (a) The Chief of Police shall establish, designate and maintain crosswalks at intersections and other places by appropriate devices, marks or lines upon the surface of the roadway of public streets as follows: Crosswalks shall be established and maintained at all intersections within the central business district and at such intersections outside such district, and at other places within or outside said district where the Chief of Police determines that there is a particular hazard to pedestrians crossing the roadway subject -to the limitation contained in (b) of this section. (b) Other than crosswalks ,At intersections, no crosswalk shall be establishedvGich is less than four hundred (400) feet in length. Elsewhere not more than one additional crosswalk shall be established in any one block and such crosswalk shall be located as nearly as practicable at mid -block. "Section 1206.2 When Pedestrians Must Use Crosswalks No pedestrian shall cross a roadway other than by a crosswalk in any business district. "Section 1206.3 Crossing at Right Angles No pedestrian shall cross a roadway at any place other than by a route at right angles to the curb or by the shortest route to the opposite curb except in a marked crosswalk. Section 1206.4 Standing in Roadways No person shall stand in any roadway other than in a safety zone or crosswalk if such action interferes with the lawful movement of traffic. This section shall not apply to any public officer or employees, or employee of a public utility when necessarily upon a street in line of duty." law, SECTION 3, This ordinance shall be published as required I.
