HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - LB - 1984.07.17 BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES JULY 17th, 1984 CALL TO ORDER: The meeting of July 17th, 1984 was called to order at 4 : 30pm by Secretary Weatherbe. Trustees Present : Trustees Nagle , Harvey, Kriloff and Weatherbe -Trustees Absent : None Also Present : Mr. Al Escoffier , Asst. City Librarian Mrs . Judy Gladysz , . Library Secretary BILLS• City checks in the amount of $46 ,938. 94 , and Special Fund checks' in the amount of $350. 92 , were approved to be paid on a motion made by Trustee Nagle , seconded by Trustee Weatherbe , and carried. MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JUNE 19th, 1984 : The Minutes of June 19th , 1984 were corrected to read as follows regarding the Duncan Patio Project : Trustee Nagle commented that the stop notices "did not appear to be proper". The Minutes were then approved as written and ordered filed. CORRESPONDENCE: Note from Mrs. Joy Molder : Trustee Kriloff read a card from Mrs . Molder which expressed her thanks for the farewell luncheon and the support of the Trustees during her employ at the Burlingame Public Library. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: Personnel Changes : Mrs . Bergsing announced that Mr. Escoffier had been appointed the position of Assistant City Librarian. The Board concurred that a very wise choice had .been made. Mr. Escoffier reported that he was in the process of recruiting for the three open positions . The Librarian I positions will close on the 27th of July , and the Librarian III position will close on the th 17th of August . He said that the Librarian III position requires experience . The examination for the Librarian I positions will be on August 15th and the Librarian III position examination will be September 5th. Page 2--- Minutes - Jul x 17th,, 1984 - Burlingame Library Board In the meanwhile , Mrs . Bergsing said the staff that remains is doing an excellent job of filling the empty slots . Mrs . Bergsing introduced the new Branch Librarian, Cathy Somerton, to the Board members .. Cathy told a little about herself , and the Board expressed a sincere welcome to Cathy and wished her good luck. Mrs . Bergsing also introduced Alan Testa, a Librarian I in the Reference Department who has taken a temporary position. Alan also told a little of his background and experience , and the Board members said they were happy to have him and extended good luck wishes also. Duncan Patio : Mrs. Bergsing said she is waiting for the painting to be done and Trustee Harvey said there would be an apprentice out to do the work. Trustee Harvey also said that he had met with the Architect and that waterproofing the planter boxes is an unnecessary item and that the electrical portion could be completed as soon as the painting is completed. He further reported that he is waiting for Vickers Saw Company to call him regarding the hole that needs to be cut in the side of the Library to allow for the outside door to be installed. Mrs . Bergsing asked Trustee Harvey about the hardware for the gate and he reported it has not yet been resolved. Librarian Bergsing said she could not locate the rails for the porch and Trustee Harvey said he would check on them for her. New Board Member: Librarian Bergsing reported that the City Council had appointed a committee of the Council to interview prospective new Board members , but it would probably be September or October before there would be a replacement for Trustee Parsons. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Gift of Art Prints from Mr. & Mrs. Walter Hirsch: Mrs . Bergsing said Mr . & Mrs. Walter Hirsch, formerly of Hillsborough , had moved to a small apartment in San Mateo and they had made a donation to the Library in the form of 50 framed art prints. Some of them will be added to the circulating art print collection Page 3 - Minutes - July 17th, 1984 - Burl_irigame Lihrary Rnarr� and the rest , and/or duplicates- will p go into the Book Sale. Mrs . Bergsing said she had already acknowledged the gift. Election of New Officers : Trustee Nagle made a motion to elect Trustee Kriloff as the new President of the Board of Trustees and that the Secretary be Trustee Harvey. The motion was seconded by Trustee Weatherbe and voted upon unanimously. -'.Congratulations ! ! Trustee Nagle observed that there appears to be a statistical anomaly in that Branch circulation is down 1 . 15%. ADJOURNMENT: President K-riloff adjourned the meeting at 5 : 12pm, with the next meeting scheduled for August 21st, 1984 , at 4 : 30pm in the California Room. Respectfully submitted , Patricia M.
