BOARD OF TRUSTEES
MINUTES
AUGUST 21st , 1984
CALL TO ORDER• ,
The meeting of August 21st , 1984 was called to order
at 4 :30pm by Secretary Harvey.
Trustees Present : Trustees Nagle , Harvey, and Weatherbe
Trustees Absent : None
Also Present : Mrs . Judy Gladysz , Library Secretary
Secretary Harvey changed the order of the Agenda to officially
express deep regret over the resignation of Trustee Kriloff.
Hdothen - opened the nominations for President and nominated
Trustee Weatherbe to the office . The nomination was seconded
by Trustee Nagle and carried unanimously. The meeting was
then turned over to President Weatherbe .
BILLS:
City checks in the amount of $26 ,515 .81 , and Special
Fund checks in the amount of $11 , 169 . 16 , were approved to be
paid on a motion made by Trustee Harvey, seconded by Trustee
Weatherbe , and carried .
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JULY 17th , 1984:
The Minutes of July 17th , 1984 were approved as written
and ordered filed.
CORRESPONDENCE:
Secretary Harvey read a letter from Mrs . Betty Lewis of Watsonville ,
California thanking the new Reference Librarian , Allen Testa ,
for research information he had supplied for a book she is
writing.
LIBRARIANS REPORT:
Librarian Bergsing reported that City Council had
extended the time for Trustee applications until September .
She also ,said that conversion was going extremely
well . Burlingame is targeting February as its "start-up-date" ,
and if any of the Board had any ideas for an "on-line" party
to let her know.
Mrs . Bergsing said that Marilyn , Al , and Linda are

attending micro computer training in Menlo Park for two days .
They should be prepared to begin using the Library's new computers
their return from the sessions .
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Duncan Patio Project - Trustee Harvey: Trustee Harvey reported
that he had met with the Architect and the Contractor and had
emphasized , again , the need to finish the patio . He further
reported that the major portion remaining is the framing -of
the door that leads from the Library to the patio. He said
the painter is due to be out next week to paint'.the-•-planter
boxes and to do some touch up.
There was discussion regarding a "Dedication" party,
for the patio. Trustee Nagle said he would be a Committee of
one in assisting Mrs . Bergsing with the guest list , refreshments`,
ect . It was decided to have two parties , one for staff and volunteers
and one for City Council , City staff and Commissioners .
Update on Personnel: Mrs . Bergsing said there were 18 -. people
who had been interviewed for the Librarian I position. She
said it will be a very difficult decision to make as they are
all very well qualified people and great candidates .
She further reported that the interview session will be held
on September 5th for the Librarian III position, Head of Reference.
She said there are a couple of Page positions available
and there will be a Page test held in September and there are
openings are openings for part-time Library Assistants . She
said it would probably be October before the Library once again
was fully staffed.
Miscellaneous : Trustee Harvey suggested that the Board re-schedule
Patrick Ball to do another Storytelling. Mrs . Bergsing said
that Mr. Escoffier had been in touch with Mr: Ball , and we hoped
to schedule him for the Christmas program as well as a series
in the winter or spring.
ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting of August 21st , 1984 was adjourned- at
5 : 18pm with the next meeting set for September 18th , 1984 in
the California Room.
