HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - LB - 1985.08.20 BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES AUGUST 201H, 1985 CALL TO ORDER: The meeting of August 20th, 1985 was called to order by Past Secretary Trustee Harvey at 4=30pm. Trustees Present : All Trustees were present Trustees Absent : None Staff Present : Mrs . Judy Gladyst, Library Secretary BILLS: M/S/C (Mink, Weatherbe ) unanimously to approve the payment of City checks in the amount of $20,258.35, and Special Fund checks in the amount of $10,088.55. MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JUDY 16TH, 198S: M/S/C unanimously to approve the minutes of the July 16th, 1985 meeting of the Library Board of Trustees. CORRESPONDENCE: There was some discussion regarding the newly painted green curb outside of the Library and the memo from the Director of Public Works. The Board members concurred that they are happy with the short term parking that now accomodates three cars. Mrs. Bergsing said she will send Mr. Kirkup a memo to thank him on behalf of the Board, and staff will keep monitoring the parking situation. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: Mrs. Bergsing pointed out the newly painted woodwork and said she was pleased with the job the painter had done. The Board members agreed. Summer Reading Club: Mrs. Bergsing reminded everyone that the Summer Reading Club party was the next day, on Wednesday, August 21st at 2:00pm for those wishing to attend. Also, the "Read-To-Me" party will be held on Friday, August 23rd for the 2 to 4 year-olds. She said the Reading Club would have entertainment featuring some animals and a slide show from Marine World, and the Read-To-Me program would have a �' puppet show, Page 2 - Minutes - August 20th, 1985 UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Preliminary sketches of possible building expansion: Mrs. Bergsing wanted the record to show that the preliminary sketches had been done by Jim Kaufman and Judy Gladysz. She explained the measurements and intent of the sketches which are rough drafts, are to give an idea of the areas that provide a possibility for expansion. Trustee Harvey said he had come up with some rough figures and that it would cost approximately $216,000 to add 1 ,500 square feet behind the Reference Office area whereas it would cost approximately $173,000 to add 1 ,260 square feet in the Duncan Annex. He said the prices vary, depending on where the addition is made. He had estimated the costs based on per square foot figures that had been developed for another local library construction project . Trustee Harvey had made additional drawings to explain some other options. These were discussed and different ideas were exchanged. The matter was tabled until October for further discussion, after the State Library Workshop on Library Buildings which Librarian Bergsing and Assistant Librarian Escoffier will be attending. NEW BUSINESS= Book in memory of Charlotte Johnson: Mrs. Bergsing had brought a book that the Board members might be interested in selecting as a memorial gift . However, after discussion they chose to continue looking for an appropriate book. Historic Photographs of Burlingame: Librarian Bergsing said the historical pictures had been hung in the back hallway and made a very attractive display. She told the Board members who hadn't seen them yet that Studio B had done an excellent job on the mounting and framing. Trustee Blevins asked if the Polaroid cameras were getting much use. Mrs. Bergsing said they were all circulating regularly. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting of August 20th, 1985 was adjourned at 5:28pm with the next meeting scheduled for September 17th, 1985, at 4:30pm in the California Room. Respectfully submitted, Patricia M.
