Board of Trustees
Minutes
August 26th, 1997
1. CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting of August 26th, 1997 was called to order by President Berger at
4:30 pm.
2. ROLL CALL:
Trustees Present: Berger, Cannon, Dunbar, & Morton
Trustees Absent: Herman
Staff Present: Alfred Escoffier,City Librarian
Judy Gladysz, Administrative Secretary
3. BILLS:
M/S/C (Berger/Dunbar) unanimously to approve the bills as presented.
4. MINUTES:
The Minutes of the Meeting of July 15th, 1997 were corrected to read
"Trustees Absent: Cannon" they were then approved as written and ordered filed.
5. CORRESPONDENCE AND COMMUNICATIONS:
All correspondence was mailed in the Trustee packets. There was some
discussion. President Berger presented a draft letter in reply to Ms. Rodgers letter
regarding her offer to purchase filtering software for the Internet. The Board
concurred that they are not interested in the offer at this time and agreed President
Berger should go ahead and mail it.
Librarian Escoffier said he would get a CLA Preliminary Conference Program
for Trustee Morton.
6. REPORTS:
a. City Librarian's Report:
Librarian Escoffier reported that the construction project is going well. He
said as a result of the rain storm, water got onto the upstairs carpet because the
terrace drains were taped shut. They should know in a few days if the carpet needs
to be replaced.

Librarian Escoffier said plans were going well for the Dedication on October
4th and reminded the Board of the Community Picnic to be held on October 5th.
b. Foundation Report / Cannon
�- Trustee Cannon said the Board has met and has decided to seek an
Administrative Assistant and they are compiling a job description. She further
reported that the Foundation is continuing to receive generous donations.
7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
a. Interim Internet Policy:
Tabled until there is a full Board present.
b. Lynx System Browser Response:
Librarian Escoffier reported that the Lynx System Browser was not something
that we could use on our Internet System. He reported that the Lynx System will
only work on a "print" browser and not on a system with graphics.
c. Employee Achievement Awards:
After some discussion it was agreed that Trustees Herman and Cannon
would serve on the committee for the Employee Achievement Awards for 1997.
Ballots will be returned to President Berger's mailbox by September 19th.
8. NEW BUSINESS:
a. Donor Recognition:
This item was tabled until there is a full Board present.
b. California Library Association Conference:
Librarian Escoffier encouraged the Board members to attend the November
Conference in Pasadena.
9. ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting of August 26th, 1997 was adjourned at 6:00 pm. The next
regular Board meeting will be held on September 30th, 1997 in the Board Room at
480 Primrose Road.
