Respectfully submitted, Alfred H. Escoffier City Librarian Trustees Minutes 9/24/97 Page 2 IF City Librarian's Report September 30, 1997 Our New Main Library! The move to the new main library was a success! We are now fully moved from our several storage facilities, as well as the Temporary Library. The move took 6 moving days, beginning on Saturday, September 13`h. We then moved items from two sites in San Leandro and one site in San Mateo the following week. The major book move began on Monday, September 15`h and continued through Friday, September 19`h. The careful planning which took place the months before the move paid off with a very smooth move. The building itself has passed most inspections. We are now reviewing the many punchlist items to complete or repair contractor work. It is expected that the punchlist work will taper off by October 1 S`. We will then need to have some more long range changes made. The most important of these is the lighting. Gala and Dedication Preparation In addition to making the building ready for operation, we are readying the building for two special events. The first event is the Elegant Evening, sponsored by the Burlingame Library Foundation, September 27, 1997. This event is expected to be a sellout! The Dedication and Grand Opening will be Saturday, October 4, 1997, 11 am. We are eagerly awaiting the public reaction to the new building, as they get their first chance to view the finished library. Personnel Marilyn Morrison retired on September 17`h as Periodical Supervisor, after 27 years of dedicated service. Staff and friends threw her a party, the first in the new building, on September 121h Upcoming Events: • Library Board Meeting, Tuesday, September 30`", 4:30 pm, Conference Room • Dedication and Grand Opening, October 4, 11 am • Surplus Equipment and Book Sale, Saturday, October 11, 10 am - 4 pm Alfred H.
