HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - LB - 1989.01.17 BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES JANUARY 17TH, 1989 CALL TO ORDER: A duly noticed regular meeting of the Burlingame Public Library Board of Trustees was held on the above date in the California Room of the Burlingame Public Library. The meeting was called to order at 4: 30pm by President Cannon. Trustees Present: CANNON, BLEVINS, MINK & ROBERTSON Trustees Absent: BACIGALUPI Staff Present: MRS. PATRICIA BERGSING, CITY LIBRARIAN MRS. JUDY GLADYSZ, SECRETARY _BILLS: M/S/C (Blevins/Mink) unanimously to approve the payment of City checks in the amount of $ 22 ,795. 05 and Special Fund checks in the amount $ 926 . 84. MINUTES: Minutes of the regular Meeting of December 20th, 1988 were approved- as pprovedas written and ordered filed. CORRESPONDENCE AND COMMUNICATIONS: a. Letter to Board from Trustee Mink: In the absence of Trustee Bacigalupi, Trustee Blevins read a thank you note from Trustee Mink thanking the Board members for the beautiful azalea plant she received while she was in the hospital for heart surgery. b. Letter to Board from the Library Staff: Trustee Blevins read the thank you note from the Library staff thanking the Board members for the sweet roll tray bought for the staff right after Christmas . c. Letter to Library from Jeanne Westphal: Trustee Blevins read a thank you letter from resident Jeanne Westphal wherein she thanked the staff for being so thoughtful in their book selections. d. Capital Improvement Memo from City Manager: Mailed in packets . e. Council Study Session Agenda Packet: Mailed in packets. f . Library New Years Resolutions: Mailed in packets. g. Roster of Commissioners for Manuals : Mailed in packets. h. Commission Attendance Report: Mailed in packets. i. City Newsletter: Mailed in packets. j . January Library Spectacles: Mailed in packets . Page 1 REPORTS: City Librarian: Trustee Blevins asked if there would be any money in the budget for improvements to the Library. Mrs. Bergsing explained that she �- hadn' t received the budget memo from the City Manager yet but she thinks the City revenues are better than last year by all indications. Mrs. Bergsing told the Board that she will be meeting with an architect on Monday to do a "walk-thru" to evaluate space needs. Trustee Cannon .asked if the "additional terminals" that will be available after the installation of the Geac 9000, will be for public use. Mrs. Bergsing said yes they would, down the road, but not initially. Trustee Mink said she found the grants that PLS is applying for to be of interest. Discussion followed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: NEW BUSINESS• REPORT ON COUNCIL STUDY SESSION: Minutes from the Study Session were distributed to the Board. FROM THE FLOOR: Trustee Robertson reported on her most recent System Advisory Board meeting. She also asked if the Board wanted to recommend anyone for the San Mateo County literacy award. Some discussion followed. Librarian Bergsing said she was checking on the possibilities of dispensing with the old Xerox 4000 . She asked the Board members to comment on shelving the mysteries, westerns and science fiction separately from the general fiction. Trustee Robertson pointed out the fact at the Branch the mysteries are separate from the other fiction. Some discussion followed.
