HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - LB - 1989.05.16 BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES �- MAY 16TH, 1989 CALL TO ORDER: A duly noticed regular meeting of the Burlingame Public Library Board of Trustees was held on the above date in the California Room of the Burlingame Public Library. The meeting was called to order at 4:30pm by President Cannon. Trustees Present: CANNON, MINK, BLEVINS & ROBERTSON Trustees Absent: BACIGALUPI Staff Present: MRS. PATRICIA BERGSING, CITY LIBRARIAN MR. ALFRED ESCOFFIER, ASST. CITY LIBRARIAN MRS. JUDY GLADYSZ, LIBRARY SECRETARY BILLS: M/S/C (Mink//Robertson) unanimously to approve the payment of City checks in the amount of $29,024.51, and Special Fund checks in the amount of $605.33. MINUTES: Minutes of the regular meeting of April 18th, 1989 were approved as written and ordered filed. CORRESPONDENCE AND COMMUNICATIONS: a. Peninsula Community Foundation Report on the Duncan Property - January - March 1989 - Mailed in packets b. Brown Act Memo - Mailed in packets REPORTS: a. CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: Mrs. Bergsing reported the Library Budget, as submitted, was being forwarded to the City Council. She also said that the entire City budget for 1989-1990 is up approximately 1.8% overall. Some discussion followed. President Cannon said she had heard some positive feedback from the administrative staff at Mills High School regarding Youth In Government Day. Once again. . . . "Hats off" to Cathy Somerton and the marvelous job she's doing for children of all ages. b. LEGISLATIVE DAY: Trustee Blevins said she really enjoyed Legislative Day in Sacramento. She said she was disappointed that Jackie Spier wasn't there. She commented that there were a total of about 450 people in attendance. Burlingame had the biggest contingent from San Mateo County and San Mateo County had the largest in the State. Trustees Blevins and Robertson gave brief reports on Legislative Day. Some discussion followed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Letter to Friends of the Library Requesting Funds: Trustee Cannon had written a letter to the Friends of the Library requesting funds for various Library projects for the fiscal year 1989-1990. M/S/C (Mink/Blevins) unanimously to approve the letter as written. Letter to Peninsula Community Foundation Requesting Funds: President Cannon had written a letter to the Peninsula Community Foundation requesting funds for the Library special projects not requested in the City Budget. M/S/C (Robertson/Mink) unanimously to approve the letter as written. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None FROM THE FLOOR: MISCELLANEOUS: Trustee Blevins commented on how bad the garbage cans look in the alley between the Duncan property and the Library. Mrs. Bergsing said she has reported this unsightly mess on several occasions to the Fox and Carskadon people. They just don't care. Mrs. Bergsing said she would call the Foundation and see if they can't remedy the situation. There was some discussion regarding the reorganization of the audio-visual area. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 5:25 with the Board members going to the Community Room to view a video tape on "Burlingame."
