HomeMy WebLinkAboutMin - LB - 1992.11.17 BURLINGAME PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES NOVEMBER 17TH, 1992 CALL TO ORDER: The meeting of November 17th, 1992 was called to order by President Cannon at 4 : 30pm. Trustees Present: Benson, Cannon, Robertson & Taylor Trustees Absent: Blevins Staff Present: Mrs . Patti Bergsing, City Librarian Mrs. Judy Gladysz , Library Secretary Mr. Alfred Escoffier, Asst. City Librarian Guests: Marti Knight, Burlingame Resident BILLS• M/S/C (Taylor/Robertson) unanimously to approve the payment of City checks in the amount of $32 , 300 . 77 , payment of the Trustees Special Fund in the amount of $1 , 119 . 50 , and Duncan Funds in the amount of $1 , 102 . 43 . MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF OCTOBER 20TH, 1992: The minutes of the October 20th, 1992 Board meeting were approved as written and ordered filed. CORRESPONDENCE AND COMMUNICATIONS: All correspondence and communications had been mailed in the Board packets with the exception of the thank you note from Librarian Bergsing and the letters from the 5th graders at McKinley School . Secretary Taylor read the thank you note from Librarian Bergsing and the letters from the 5th graders were passed around for the Board to read. REPORTS: Librarian's Report: Librarian Bergsing said she had talked with City Manager, Dennis Argyres, regarding the Ripley Report. Dennis explained to her that the Ripley Report would be one of the items on the Agenda at the Study Session for City Council in January. There was some discussion regarding the issues. President Cannon asked to be kept informed of the status of the Geac upgrade. Brief discussion followed. There was some discussion regarding Info-Edge, the new fee-based business reference service now being offered by the San Mateo Public Library. PAGE 1 System Advisory Board Orientation - President Cannon: President Cannon reported that the SAB will be meeting with the South Bay Cooperative Library System. She said they are planning a Forum to meet with different Library Friends groups . President Cannon said the next meeting will be held at Burlingame on November 30 from 4-6pm. CLA Conference Reports - Patti & Al : _ — d Librarian Bergsing and Assistant City Librarian Al Escoffier and several other staff attended the California Library Association's Conference in Long Beach over the weekend of November 13th. Librarian Bergsing gave a brief overview of what the Conference had to offer and Assistant City Librarian Al Escoffier reported on the workshops he had attended. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: a. Final Draft of the Long-Range Plan: Librarian Bergsing asked if the Board had any questions regarding the final draft of the Library's Long-Range Plan. Trustee Robertson said she thought the final draft was fine. The other Board members concurred that it was well done and that Al had done a beautiful job on it. M/S/C (Benson/Taylor) unanimously to accept the final draft of the Long-Range Plan as presented. Brief discussion followed. NEW BUSINESS• a. Holiday Schedule for 1993 : M/S/C (Robertson/Benson) unanimously to approve the 1993 Library holiday schedule with notation that if budget constraints prevail after the 1993-94 budget is approved, the Board may change the holiday hours to reflect more closures as needed. FROM THE FLOOR: Trustee Robertson voiced some concerns about the weak structure of the Friends group. She said she feels that there should be more publicity, etc. Librarian Bergsing said it is a priority of Al's to establish a better, stronger Friends groups and it is also in the Long- Range Plan. ADJOURNMENT• The meeting of November 17th, 1992 was adjourned at 5 : 35pm with the next meeting scheduled for December 15th, 1992 in the Duncan Annex. Respectfully submitted, Patricia M.
