Moore Traffic Director, Sgt. J. I'Brien PI.EDGE OF ALLEGIANCE llinutes of the meetir.S of Pebruary L2, 1916 were accepted. CURRENT BUSINESS Occidental Avenue Ctrairman Rodman iecognized Mr. D. B. rJohrlus, 136 Occidental Avenue, htho expressed interest in City Council ,s action on the proposed regula-tions for Occidental Avenue. !4r. Moore stated that an ordinance had been authorized to change the speed limit to 3O m.p.h. The crosswalk has been ordered and the owner of the hedge contacted requesting it be reduced in height. He is appealing to the City Attorney. Commissioner Sulger asked about thc. height of the hedge and l,tr. Moore replied it is5'4" and the city is asking it be reduced to 36,'. There is a city Ordinance confirming this requirement. Chairman Rodman asked th.at this topic be carried on the agenda for the aix-month period of the ordinance, with periodic reports from Mr. I,loore.A copy of the Commission minutes is to be sent to Mr. Bowlus each month. lfhe Chairman vrelcomed four high school students in the audience. !!i!.e Ca4yqn A letter from l,ladison Cooper, 1514 La Mesa !ane, expressing his protestof the motorbikes riding in the Canyon, was referred to by the Chairman. Sergeant O'Brien reported that the police Department is in the process of informing residents in the area, including Burlingame Internediate School and MiIIs High Sdrool , regarding the ban of motor vehicles in the Graham Rodman J" Chairman Rodman led the Pledge .of Allegiance to the Flag. MINUTES J Canyon. The area has been declared recreational space and under this regimen such vehicles are not .".llowed. Chairman I )dman requested a copy of the letter from Mr. cooper be sent to the Park and Recreation conrni ss ion . Parkinq Structure commissioner Constantino attended a meeting in San Mateo at wh ictl discussion included their effort to settle inequities in assessments. The City of San Mateo plans to hire a traffic engineer to assist in arriving at solutions that will appease the property ohrners. Park j.ng Questionnaire Iytr. Moore stated he just does not have time to gather the information. If the Engineering Department has extra sunmer help this year, they perhaps, could assist him; or if the merchants could help, he would be abl. e to evaluate the information received. Commissioner Graham will inquire at the next meeting of the Chamber of comnerce. OLD BUSINESS corunissioner Grahar asked if there had been any investigation of ye1low zones. He mentioned the one on Hovrard Avenu! as being four spaces long and wondereC if they need that space. Pollowing discussion, in which it was recalled this has been in effect for ten or eleven years, it was requested that the City Manage-- be consulted regarding this zone; and Chairman Rodman asked that the City Manager also be a:ked for clarification of this commtssion's resporrsr- bility and authority to recorunend the location and size of l-oading zones. Parking space dimensio:rs.Mr. I{oo::e mentioned parking space diirensions A motion was introduced by Commissioner Graham to recorunend to City Council that Staff be authorized to stud: the percentage of compact cars and motorcycles i,r the public parking areas, r,,rith ;ubsequent restriping to alLow more parking stalls, if feasible. Seconded by chairman Rodman, the motion carried unanimously. Commissioner craham mentioned space on Lot E that night be utilized. He also stated he did not wi:h to have this investigation applied to thoprivate Eector, just public parking. Chairman Rodman asked if this is in the realm of this Ccmmission. The planning ordinance deals specifice.Ily with private parking. Should such consideration now be given to public parking ? Commissioner Graham said. someone':ad told him the City could leasethe land for $1.00 a year; however, commissioner Subbotin said therewot':Id be taxes on the property to be paid Commissioner Graham then moved to recommend to the city Manager thathe invest.i.9at" the possibility of leasing the southern pacific parkingarea north and sout.. of Broadwa.y for the purpose of creating. lo.g-term pa.rking 1ot in those areas under one jurisdiction.
