Minutes approved as issued. 4.2 Discussion. 4.2.7 McKinley School Crossing - Oak Grove and Paloma - Request for Flashing Signal and Post "school/Pedestrian Crossing." Staff Comments: Tom Moore stated that many of the schools were usingsafety stands; they also tend to cut down the speeds of vehicles in school areas, thinks they would be useful and recommends their use. CalTrans' tests have shown no problems with motorcycles hitting base. Use in Redwood City has found that driver complianCe seems to be high. Before and after studies show the "85th percentile speed,, was reduced by six miles per hour. Commission Discussion: Appears to have potential for driver awarness and speed reduction at school zones. Would require cooperation of schools to place and pick up signs. The Commission approved the use of these signs ',in concept,, and di-rected staff to 'initiate discussions with schools. Red Curb at 1510 Rollins Road Driveway - Portion Left Unpainted. Staff Comments: Sgt. Parkin reviewed this 'location and recommenedto the Commission that red zone be left where it is; extending red zone to culvert would not help. Current placement of red zoni pro- vides a "window" for cars exiting the driveway to see approaching cars. It was moved/seconded (Foley/Johnson) to deny additiona'l red zoneat this location. Motion was approved unanimously. MINUTES - Cont'd. 4.2.3 4.2.4 INACTIVE ITEMS. 2 Al leviate Two-Hour Parking Restriction on West Side of Magnol iaAvenue between Trousdale ind Murchison Drives. Traffic Engineer Moore could sei noparticuiar problems with granting request. Corrnission Discussion: Rather than removing existing signs, perhapsbetter to "bag" signs for trial period to t6st results. - It was moved/seconded (Foley/Sulger) to ,,bag,, existing signs for60-day trial period.
