Hollman was CURRENT BUSINESS. 4.7 Action ltems. Comrn. Sulger Acting Chairman. 4 4.L.1 Approval of Minutes of August 14,' L986. Commission approved as issued. 4.L.2 YeI1ow Zones - Burlingame Avenue Busj-ness Area. Commissioner Simonetti visited this site and gave areport to the Commissj.on that people are using thisye11ow zone to park short term while they go intothe nearby shops to either pickup items or leavethem. Many of these people are going into theSterling Cleaning establishment. Al,though this isthe only ye1Iow zone on Howard Avenue, it is unusedmost of the time. This yellow zone is 50' Iong.Motion was made and seconded by Comm.Lehrfeld\Simonetti that the Commission recommend tothe Council, the removal of this yeI1ow zone.Motion was approved unanimously by the Commission. 4.2 Discussion Items. 4.2.1 Overnight Parking on City Streets. The Commission held a discussion on the overnightparking on City streets and hrow it is being misused.. Two instances $rere cited whereby the residents areusing their garage for storage space instead ofparking. One residence has a total of seven carsand all are being parked on the street with permitsfor overnight parking for a term of six months.This not only makes parking scarce at night butprevents the street sweeper from properly cleaningthe areas early in the morning before the carsparked on the street have 1eft. Comm. Hollman expressed fris concerns regardingresidents in the area of Chapin Lane who have longdriveways with garages and theY park on the streetat night instead of using garage or driveway for L. 2. 3. I parking. He discussed with the Commission the ideaof propos.i,ng an increase .in the fi-nes for nightparking. He suggested a $25 fine instead of thepresent lower fine. He also suggested that maybethe Police Department could review their poli.cy onissuing parking permits and use some stricter - guidelines before issuing a permit; making surethere is a dire need for having to park on thestreet instead of the garage or driveway. Comm.Hollman/Auron motj.oned and seconded that thisrecommendation be presented to Council for review.This motion was unanimously approved by theCommission. Comm.
