Enforcement of Parking along Burlingame Avenue (referredto TSPC from Council )
Sgt. Eldridge stated that the Police Department iswriting more parking tickets than ever before because ofthe abuse of the 1-hour limit on Burlingame Avenue;however, the extra 2 - 4 tidxets for the effort ofenforcing this limit arenrt worth the time it takes up.
Comm. OrDonnell said the enforcement has been evident andlooks good. Mr. Archie Offield referred to his letter ofL/18/82 to which Chief Palmer said that nothing could bedone about greater enforcement. However, Mr. Offield
compared Burlingame to several other peni.nsu].a citieswith similar parking limit circumstances and said thatthese cities do not have a problem with enforcement. Hestated that some Burlingame Avenue merchants are suffer-ing due to abuse of the l-hour l_imit.
Sgt. Eldridge vril1 report back at the next meeting as tothe feasibility of the ratio - more enforcement: morepersonnel. Comm. Auran r^rill report on the Chamber of
Commerce survey of Burlingame Avenue merchants regardingparking.
Comm. Evans expressed concern as to the safety of thosetrain commuters r^rho disembark at the Broadway station andproceed to cross over the train tracks then cross CarolanAvenue to the Northpark Apartments with no crosswalkavailable to them. The Traffic Engineer suggested thepossibiLity of installing a fence to direct them to thecrosswalk already provided at Broadway and Carolan. TheTraffic Engineer will make a report as to the situationat the next meeting.
Request for One-HaIf Hour Meters in parking Lot J. - L325Burlingame Avenue (Bon Appetit Foods/Mark Nelson letter)
Mr. Mark Nelson stated that the reason for this requestj-s because of other merchants and their employees parkingin the 2-hour netered staI1s and feedinq the meters,.therefore, not providing parking for cuitomers in 15 - 20parking stalls every day. Sgt. Eldridge stated thatfeeding meters is i1legaI . Comm. Evans feels the viola-tors (business people) should be educated as to theeffect of their abusing the law. The Traffic Engineerwi].]- perform a parking survey of this lot. This wiII bea discussion item at the March meeting.
Request Staff Recommendation to provide New Crosswalk orOther Controls for Train Commuters Crossing Carolan
