CURRENT BUSINESS . 4.L Action Items. 4.1.1 June L3, L991 Minutes approved as submitted. 4.2 Discussion Items. 4.2.L (a) Request for Handicap Ramp - SoutheastCorner Primrose Road/Floribunda Avenue. Staff reported to the Commission regardingrecent observation of thLs area and howthe vehicles are whipplng aroundFloribunda Avenue onto Primrose Road andsuggested that maybe speed limit, signs and markings should be posted, and theBurlingame Police Department to exercise some police enforcement. After some discussion by the Commission,it was decided to put this item on theAugust Agenda under Actlon ftems. In theinterim, more observation will be made ofthis area. (b) Reguest for Stop Sign - Primrose Road/Floribunda Avenue. This item wil] be on the August Agenda under Action Items. 4.2.2 (a) Request for 3o-Minute creen zone 89l- California Drive. Sa1ly Dryer attended meeting and reportedto the Commission regarding cars from the body shop parking on the street in the morning and being tfrere most of the day and how her customers have no room topark. She stated that her customers spend approximatly 15 to 20 minutes in her framlng shop and would not be parked onthe street longer than this time. After some discussion with commission andstaff, it was recommended that one green zone be installed without parking meters to alleviate this problem on California Drive . After some dlscusslon, it was moved and seconded to move this item to an ActionItemi unanimously approved by the Commis- sion. It was unanimously approved togrant this request for a green zone onCalifornla Drive. (b) Request for 3o-Minute Greerr Zone - Southwest Corner Maj 11la,/California Drive. This will be on the August Agenda underAction Items. (c) Request for Red Curb - South Side of Maji].]-a in 11oo B1ock. WlIl be on Aug. Agenda under Action Items. Request for Three-$lay Stop Slgns or SignalLights - Carmellta,/Callfornia Drlve. Lisa Ainsworth attended the meeting and spoke to the Conmisslon regarding the accident which happened on Ylay 20, L991 atthis location. she saw the accident happen and reported that she had seen two near miss accidents since May at this 1o- cation. Staff brought informatlon to the meetlng which included data on warrants and acci- dents. An average of 16OO vehicles per hour for an elght-hour period travel along CalLfornia Drive. The accident warrants do not qualify for signals. Staff re- ported that yellow flashlng lights and a crosshatched pedestrian walkway would cost approxlmately S8, OOO. It was motioned and seconded to move this item to an Actlon Itemi unanimously approved. Commission then motioned and seconded to recommend the installaion of 4.2.3 5 6 7 I 4.2.4 INACTIVE ITEMS. NONE. Request for Stop Signs - Crosswalk on Magnolia Avenue between Murchison Drive/ Trousdale Drive. carol)i.n George, representatlve from theCalifornia Teachers Association, reportedto the CommLssion concerning pedestrian safety at the crosswafk located on Magnolia Avenue between Murchison Drive and Trousdale Drive. Thelr employees usethis crosswalk and have compfaLned aboutthe cars speeding through this area. Staff reported that the Burlingame Po1lce Department had observed this crosswalk and di.d not see a problem with speeding ofvehicles at this crosswalk. It does notqualify for a Stop signs since there are no warrants. Staff suggested to the Commission that this area be observed forsix months and then another review be madeat the end of this time.
