ROLL CALL. 5 Commissioners present. CURRENT BUSINESS. 4.1 ACTION ITEMS. 4.1.1 2 3 4 November 9, 1995 Minutes of October 12, 1995 approved as submined by the Commission. Request for 4-Way Stop Signs at Peninsula Avenue and Lorton Avenue Per Mr. Dellaway, City of San Mateo requested we duplicate their markings (red zones on Peninsula, both sides of lorton); and we have done so. It wils moved and seconded (Comm. Evans/Preger) to recommend denial of this request since ttrc City has aheady taken action; unanimously approved by the Commission. Request for Parking Permits/Increased Parking Spaces in Iortor/Peninsula Avenue Area Sgt. Haseleu advised that the number of parking spaces has been increased and since we do not issue such permits due to lack of staff, recommends denying this request. It was moved and seconded (Comm. Karp/Evans) to recommend denial of this request based on previous month's discussion and staff support; unanimously approved by the Commission. Request for Stop Sign at Ray Drive and Davis Drive From the floor, Michael Thompson advised there is no crosswalk at this location. Also, there are more children in the area so is concerned about drivers going up Ray Drive and turning left at this intersection going faster than it is safe to do so. Mr. Dellaway advised there is no record of any accidents, and traffic volumes don't warrant a Stop sign. Suggested red zones if visibility a problem. Mr. Thompson advised that red zones not helpful due to odd angle of turn and drivers going too fast. Sgt. Haseleu recommended painting a crosswalk and adding a Yield 4.1.2 4.1.3 4.1.4 t November 9, 1995 sign. Also, there is no speeding problem. Drivers turn at 15-20 mph which is still legal. Comm. Norton stated this is a great location for speed humps if we had them. Mr. Dellaway suggested the radar trailer be placed there. Sgt. Haseleu advised it has been placed there and will place it there again. It was moved and seconded (Comm. Preger/Evans) to recommend denial of this request based on lack of warrants and speeding citations; unanimously approved by the Commission. At petitioners request, Mr. Dellaway will send the petitioner a copy of the accident report for this intersection. 4.2 DISCUSSION ITEMS. 4.2.1 Request for Stop Sign on Belvedere Court at Summit Drive 5. INACTIVE ITEMS. 5.1 Suggestion to Change l0-Hour Parking Meters to 2-Hours in Parking Irt K for Review after the Holidays (Awaiting the review in parking at the new Library site.) 6. NEWBUSINESS. 6.1 Request Traffic Study of Peninsula Crosswalk at Stanley Road Mr. Dellaway advised that this crosswalk is one block from the traffic signals at Dwight and Peninsula. It was recommended that this be moved to a Discussion item at Orc next meeting giving all commissioners an opportunity to view the site. 6.2 Request for Removal of 2-Hour Parking Limit on Paloma, South of Broadway, or Issue Residential Permit Stickers From the floor three Paloma residents, Paulette Sudano, Natasha Westco and Judy Richmond, advised they would like to know why new 2-hour Parking Limit signs were installed on their street and requested parking permit stickers be issued to residents to alleviate their parking problem caused by Broadway merchants and customers taking up all the spaces. Family members and visitors have little or no parking available to them. The opposite side of the street has no such parking signs. -3- Traffic, Safety and Parking Commission Minutes Mr. Dellaway advised there have been no accidents in three years and traffrc volumes are low. Sgt. Haseleu advised there is already a Stop sign on the Hillsborough side of this intersection. It was moved and seconded (Comm. Evans/Norton) to move this item to an Action item immediately and to recommend denial of this request; unanimously approved by the Commission. 7.1 Traffic, Safety and Parking Commission Minutes November 9, 1995 Sgt. Haseleu advised the signs already posted state 2-hour parking from here to comer but there weren't enough signs displayed to enforce this requirement. These signs were requested years ago by residents because the merchants and employees were parking all day long. Residents present stated all day parking is better than 2 hour. Sgt. Haseleu suggested removing the 2-hour parking signs. It was moved and seconded (Comm. Evans/Karp) to move this to an Action item next month; unanimously approved by the Commission. 7. INFORMATION ITEMS. Comm. Karp requested Mr. Dellaway check the pedestrian signal on south side of Burlingame Avenue crossing California Drive since the signal appears to change too quickly. 7.2 Comm. Preger asked about the schedule to install rubberized tracks through the city. Mr. Dellaway advised of the following schedule: 1. Broadway 2. Oak Grove 3. Howard 4.
